The Washington College women’s tennis team earned four singles victories and four doubles wins Saturday at the Swat Invite hosted by Swarthmore at Faulkner Courts in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Stevens University also participated in the event.
Strong Singles Performances Highlight Shorewomen at Swat Invite
Antonia Kousiou defeated her Stevens opponent decisively, 6-1, 6-1, while Gaby Coutts won her singles match 6-1, 6-0. Sofia Sperandei also emerged victorious against a Stevens player, winning two tiebreak sets 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-6) after close games. Julieta Alvarez won her singles match with scores of 4-2 and 4-1 under the no-ad scoring format.
Doubles Success Bolsters Washington College’s Results
Coutts, Kousiou and Sperandei each secured two doubles wins during the tournament. Coutts and Sperandei defeated a Stevens pair 6-3, while Kousiou teamed with Julieta Alvarez to win 6-4 against another Stevens tandem. Kousiou and Sperandei added a 7-6 (7-1) victory over a Stevens duo. Additionally, Coutts partnered with a Swarthmore player to defeat a Stevens pair 6-0.
Looking Ahead: ITA Southeast Regional
Washington College will travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for the ITA Southeast Regional on September 25-26. The event will take place on the campus of Mary Washington University.
