Howard Community College Dragons women’s volleyball earned its first home win of the season by sweeping the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Black Bears 3-0 on Sept. 23 in Columbia, Maryland. Howard Community College won the sets 28-26, 25-15 and 25-22, with Zyon Austin leading the Dragons with 14 kills and 11 digs.

Howard Community College overcame a close opening set before controlling the second. Pennsylvania Highlands Community College made a late challenge in the third set, but the Dragons secured the sweep with a 25-22 victory.
Diana Feria added seven kills and six digs, while Amelia Thomas and Yusra Arenas each recorded four kills. Abigail Nirola contributed 25 assists, four aces and 12 digs.
Kira King led Howard Community College with 24 digs, and Toriana Curry recorded six blocks. The Dragons also finished with a .202 hitting percentage, compared with .043 for Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.
Howard Community College’s Next Match
Howard Community College is scheduled to play Butler County Community College and Anne Arundel Community College in a tri-match Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. Butler County Community College is nationally ranked, according to the Howard Community College release.

Howard Community College received contributions from multiple players in the sweep. Austin led the attack, while Nirola, King and Curry produced significant numbers in serving, setting, defense and blocking.
The Dragons held Pennsylvania Highlands Community College to a .043 hitting percentage and closed the match after winning the opening set in extra points. The victory gave Howard Community College its first home win of the season.
