Southern High School in Harwood competes as the Bulldogs and represents southern Anne Arundel County. Boys lacrosse won an MPSSAA Class 2A state championship with a 20-goal performance that tied the state-final scoring record at the time. Southern has also developed a respected unified sports program centered on participation and inclusion. Notable athletic alumnus Dale Castro became an accomplished football player and coach, including a standout kicking career at the University of Maryland. The school’s rural-community roots remain an important part of Bulldog athletics.
