Washington College Shorewomen fell to the Gettysburg College Bullets, 4-2, in a Centennial Conference game Sept. 26 at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium in Chestertown, Maryland. Tara Radebaugh and Jamie Baldwin scored for Washington College, which dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Gettysburg improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets took an early lead before Radebaugh tied the game in the second quarter. Gettysburg then scored twice more before halftime to take a 3-1 advantage.
Gettysburg Gains Halftime Lead with Second-Quarter Surge
Gettysburg took a 1-0 lead with 7:57 remaining in the first quarter. Radebaugh responded with a goal at 7:47 left in the second quarter to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bullets then scored twice in a 41-second span late in the second quarter, with goals from Cianna Miranda, Sydney Yaw, and Allie McCaffrey. Yaw scored twice overall. Olivia Conte assisted on one of Yaw’s goals, while Lauren Rudick had two assists. Gettysburg held a 3-1 lead at halftime.
Baldwin Cuts Deficit to One in Third Quarter
Washington College earned several penalty corners in the third quarter, culminating with Baldwin scoring with 46 seconds remaining to bring the score to 3-2.
Gettysburg Adds Fourth Goal in Fourth Quarter; Schurman Makes 12 Saves
Gettysburg extended the lead to 4-2 with 10:53 remaining in the fourth quarter. Washington College continued to press, with Natalie Watkinson recording a shot on goal and earning another penalty corner, but the Shorewomen could not find another goal.
Charlotte Schurman played all 60 minutes in goal for Washington College, making 12 saves while allowing four goals. Washington College had five shots and four penalty corners in the game compared to Gettysburg’s 16 shots on goal. The loss left Washington College at 0-1 in Centennial Conference play.
