Ravens do not franchise tag Monroe
The Baltimore Ravens have decided not to franchise tag left tackle Eugene Monroe. If you do not remember the Ravens acquired Monroe last season from the Jacksonville Jaguars during this transaction. The Ravens are currently talking to Monroe to try to get a long-term deal done before he hits free agency.
Monroe’s wife is from the Baltimore area and he has stated that he would like to stay with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens offensive line was very bad last season but Monroe did play well. The Ravens have a lot of holes on the offensive line and losing Monroe to free agency would be a hard loss.
Monroe has proven that he is capable of staying healthy and would likely be able to play out a new contract. The Ravens already locked up Pitta and it would be a huge plus if they locked up Monroe, they have plenty of salary cap space to make it happen. The thing about the Ravens is that they do not like to overpay for players but in this case they may have to.
I think the Ravens need to lock up Monroe before he becomes a free agent or else they may not be able to match other teams offers.
