Player Profiles: Justin Tucker
For the first time on Maryland Sports Blog we have a player profile on a kicker. Lets face it if I was blogging back when Matt Stover was playing for the Baltimore Ravens I would have done one of him. Since Stover and the Ravens parted ways the Ravens went through a few kickers until landing on Justin Tucker. Tucker holds the Ravens single season points record with 140.
Tucker is an All-Pro kicker from the University of Texas, Tucker went undrafted in the 2012 draft. When the Ravens brought Tucker in as an undrafted rookie free agent they still had Billy Cundiff on the team. Tucker beat Cundiff out and the Ravens have not looked back.
Tucker has a very strong and accurate leg, he helped the Ravens win the Super Bowl in his rookie season, making every field goal in the post season.
Tucker has made 68 out of 74 field goals in his first two seasons which is a 91.9% success rate. When the Ravens played the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football late in the 2013 season Tucker went six for six and really made a name for himself nationwide. Tucker also hit a game winning 61-yard field goal in that game.
Off the field Tucker has become a fan favorite for his consistency on the field. Tucker a practicing Roman Catholic and sings opera. Tucker is one Raven that will never have trouble off the field. Tucker’s personality helps him stay level headed as a kicker.
I think Tucker will be a Raven for a very long time. Kickers are not the most expensive position to keep around and most of the good ones stay with one franchise for long periods of time.
