LAX Preview: #3 Maryland (4-0) at Navy (2-0)
Navy faces #3-ranked Maryland Saturday at noon ET at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in men’s lacrosse action. Both teams are undefeated this season.
The Midshipmen are 2-0, having beaten Vermont, 13-8, to open the year and UMBC, 11-6, last weekend. With a win on Saturday, Navy will have started their year 3-0 for the first time since 2007.
Defeating Bucknell, 11-6, in their first game of the season, the Terrapins then sent Richmond home with a 10-9 loss. At Penn, Maryland fought through 2OT for a 13-12 victory, before beating Colgate, 11-6, last Tuesday.
Navy’s offense is led by senior midfielder Ryan Wade, who owns the 11th-longest scoring streak in the country at 26 games. Greyson Torain, senior midfielder, became the 34th player and ninth midfielder in the Academy’s history to reach the 100-point mark earlier this season. Defensively, junior goalkeeper, Ryan Kern was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week last Monday after becoming the first Navy netminder since 2009 to record an assist.
Offensively, Maryland is headed by attackman, Jared Bernhardt, who has 19 points on 12 goals and 6 assists this season. Midfielder, Logan Wisnauskas, who has also scored 19 this year, joined Bernhardt in five-point performances against Colgate. On the other side, starting defensemen, Curtis Corley and Brett Makar, have each contributed two caused turnovers in 2019.
Looking ahead, Navy will start Patriot League play when they take on Bucknell on March 2nd. Maryland heads to Notre Dame to meet the Fighting Irish on March 3rd.
