Navy Downs UMBC, 11-6, in Men’s Lacrosse

The Navy Midshipmen recorded their second victory of the young season Friday night as they beat UMBC in men’s lacrosse. Navy moves to 2-0 overall. UMBC falls in their first game of 2019.

Playing at home at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Mids had a fight on their hands early as the Retrievers scored three points to Navy’s four in the first fifteen minutes of play. From then on, Navy controlled the game, scoring three points each in the second and fourth quarters.

The Mids won 11 of the 21 faceoffs, made 14 saves and had a fifty-percent on-goal shot average.. The Retrievers finished with nine saves, and 20 of their 41 shots were on goal.

Up next, UMBC head to Richmond for a Tuesday afternoon game. Navy will host Maryland on Feb. 23. (A complete Navy schedule can be found here.)
