The Frederick Keys lost 4-3 to the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 11 innings Saturday night at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Maryland. Luis Vazquez recorded two RBI singles, including Frederick’s final run in the bottom of the 11th inning. The game was the fifth of a six-game series.
Keys Take Early Leads in Tight Contest
JT Quinn opened the game with a seven-pitch, 1-2-3 first inning for Frederick. After both teams went scoreless in the second, Luis Vazquez gave the Keys a 1-0 lead with an RBI single to center in the bottom of the third inning.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks tied the game with an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning. Edwin Amparo put Frederick back in front in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run, giving the Keys a 2-1 lead.
Wilmington evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning on a solo homer by Eli Willits. Neither team scored in the seventh, and Todd Kniebbe recorded a 1-2-3 top of the eighth to keep the game even.
Wilmington Scores Twice in the 11th
Both teams went scoreless in the ninth inning, sending the game to extra innings tied at 2-2. In the 10th, Braylin Tavera threw out an inherited runner at third base, keeping Wilmington off the scoreboard.
The Blue Rocks took a 4-2 lead on a two-RBI single in the top of the 11th inning. Luis Vazquez responded with an RBI single to left in the bottom half, but the Keys could not rally further.
Wilmington recorded the final out and secured the 4-3 victory in 11 innings. Vazquez finished with two RBI singles, while Edwin Amparo and Eli Willits each hit solo home runs.
Frederick Keys Host Series Finale Sunday
The Frederick Keys will host the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The game will feature Candy Chaos presented by Goldfish Swim School and Sunday Funday courtesy of Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley. Pregame catch in the outfield and Meet the Team are scheduled during the first 30 minutes after gates open.
Saputo will provide a reusable bag giveaway for the first 1,000 fans ages 13 and older. The game marks the final contest of the six-game series and the Keys’ homestand.
