Dylan Bundy injury update
A lot of people have been asking me how Dylan Bundy is doing and how far off he is. Remember he pitched mostly at double-A Bowie before he got injured and needed Tommy John Surgery.
Bundy has been pitching in extended spring training which means he is closing in on starting a rehab assignment. Bundy tweeted yesterday that he threw two innings in extended spring training and feels great, which is a good sign. Some reporters have said that Bundy’s fastball is starting to come back and it is right now in the low 90’s.
I see Bundy still taking a lot more time in extended spring training. Bundy’s velocity was in the high 90’s when he got injured and he was a starter so he needs to go at least five innings.
When Bundy is healthy enough to pitch in real games I see him still spending a lot of time in the minors. Bundy will either go to Bowie or triple-A Norfolk. Bundy will have a lot of rust to knock off and confidence to regain. Bundy needs to at least get back to the pitcher he was in 2012.
I would suggest fans to be patient with Bundy, he is still extremely young. Just because Bundy may be physically ready in a few months does not mean he will be ready to help the Orioles.
