The Ravens signed running back Kenyan Drake to their practice squad on Wednesday. Drake was in Baltimore for a workout alongside free agent running backs James Robinson and Ronald Jones, as the Ravens look to continue adding depth to the running back position. Drake spent training camp with Indianapolis, the team the Ravens square off against on Sunday, before being released during the final round of cuts.

The 29-year old, Drake returns to the Ravens after spending last season with the team playing 12 games and rushing for 482 yard and four touchdowns. Drake led the way for most of the 2022 season as J.K. Dobbins dealt with injuries and Gus Edwards was limited at the start of the year.

With J.K. Dobbins out for the year with a torn achilles and Justice Hill now dealing with a foot injury, the Ravens are down to just Gus Edwards and Melvin Gordon as far as healthy running backs. Undrafted rookie Keaton Mitchell is still on injured reserve at least for another two weeks, giving Drake ample opportunity to pick up where he left off last season for the Ravens.

Drake was on the practice field Wednesday after his workout wearing number 37, as he prepares for Sunday. Its unclear if Drake will be promoted off the practice squad for Sunday’s game as Gordon was signed to the active roster and was in uniform last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, but failed to record a carry. The health of Hill will likely determine how quickly Drake is promoted and if he will see much game action in the near future.
