JK Dobbins Out for Season After Achilles Tear

After a strong start and touchdown from JK Dobbins, he was taken out for an apparent injury in the third quarter. What we all were hoping would be a small injury, ended up being a torn Achilles. John Harbaugh addressed the media after the game and said this will be a season-ending injury.

Dobbins had 22 rushing yards on 8 attempts with a touchdown, including 15 yards from the air today. This was expected to be a big year for Dobbins as he enters the final year in his rookie contract. This is Dobbins’s second major injury since being drafted. Back in 2021 he suffered an ACL tear that costed him the entire season. In 2022, he came back and played for six weeks before undergoing another procedure to repair his knee and didn’t return until Week 14.

Lamar Jackson and Patrick Queen came out after the game in support of JK Dobbins and to ask for prayers for Dobbins. This will be a big missing piece for the remainder of the season for the Ravens, who struggled to get into an offensive groove for the majority of the game.

It looks like Gus Edwards will take over the starting role at RB as of right now. Edwards had 32 yards on 8 carries against the Texans. Justice Hill will most likely move up to second string. The Ravens currently have Melvin Gordon still on their practice squad, expect him to get activated this week. Keaton Mitchell, who had a strong pre-season, is currently on the IR and should be back by Week 4.

The two top current free agent ruining backs available right now are Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt. I would be shocked to see the Ravens pick up Hunt, given how much money he is looking for ($5-$7 million). Fournette could be a good option to pick up for Baltimore.

For now, we hope for a speedy recovery by Dobbins and hopefully see him back on the field next season, whether that be with the Ravens or in a new destination.
