D.C. United gets Shutout by NYCFC
For the third straight game at Audi Field, the team wearing Black and Red was held off the scoreboard. Technically, D.C. United was actually wearing teal for their kits while New York City FC wore black and teal. D.C. United’s teal almost looked like the NYCFC light blue kits.
NYCFC struck first in the 35th minute with a goal from Alexandreu Mirthrita to go up 1-0 on the Black and Red. That would be the score entering halftime.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 56th minute with a strike from Heber. NYCFC came into this match with an 0-5-1 record in search of their first win. One of their five draws came against D.C. United which occured in the second gmae of the season.
For the hosts, it was simply a frustrating afternoon on the pitch. Chris Durkin, Leondardo Jara and Paul Arriola each had yellow cards.
For some negatives there were a few positives. Homegrown local talent Griffin Yow subbed in for Arriola at the first minute of stoppage time in the 90th minute, making his first appearance for D.C. United. The 16-year old native from Clifton, VA was signed by the club last month.
D.C. United looks to bounce back in a first round playoff rematch this Wednesday as they head to Columbus to take on the Crew. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on FloFC.
