DC United vs. NYCFC Recap: March 10, 2019

D.C. United played to a scoreless draw against NYCFC at Yankee Stadium. Despite the best efforts of Wayne Rooney and Lucas Rodriguez to score, The Black-and-Red still played a 0-0 game. NYCFC was held back more from their lack of a consistent striker. NYCFC had twice the possession time and six shots on goal, but still could not quite take the win.

Goalie Bill Embid was the star of the game for D.C. He made four saves, including a strong one in second-half stoppage time from NYC’s Anton Tinnerholm. Despite the lack of scoring, there was energy and drive from both sides, as D.C. tried for six corner kicks including two from star Wayne Rooney. Luciano Acosta had a chance to score in the eleventh minute, but was blocked by Pigeons goalie Sean Johnson, himself having three incredible saves.

United is still winless in the Bronx, with an 0-3-1 record overall. This is their second straight draw there after a 1-1 match last year. However, the Black-and-Red are unbeaten in their last four contests against the Pigeons, so take some consolation in receiving four total points on the season so far. They also have not allowed any goals in two games. United looks to take this energy and expert goaltending home.
