CCBC Catonsville Athletics
The CCBC Catonsville Cardinals represent the Catonsville campus of the Community College of Baltimore County in intercollegiate athletics. Located on South Rolling Road in Catonsville, Maryland, the Cardinals provide student-athletes from Baltimore County and throughout the region an opportunity to compete at the junior college level while continuing their academic development.
CCBC Catonsville competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as a member of NJCAA Region 20 and the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO). The Catonsville campus currently sponsors five men’s and five women’s varsity sports, giving the Cardinals one of the broader athletic programs among Maryland’s community colleges.
The Cardinals’ current programs include baseball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, men’s cross country and men’s track and field, along with softball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s cross country and women’s track and field. CCBC Catonsville regularly competes against Maryland junior college programs such as CCBC Essex, CCBC Dundalk, Anne Arundel, Howard, Harford, Montgomery, Frederick and other Region 20 opponents.
Athletic success has long been part of Catonsville’s history. The Cardinals have produced championship teams, postseason appearances, All-Region performers and athletes who have continued their careers at four-year colleges. Historically, CCBC Catonsville has also enjoyed national-level success, including NJCAA championships in women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer. The school’s women’s soccer program captured a national championship in 2008, while women’s lacrosse won national titles in 2004, 2005 and 2008.
Baseball has been one of Catonsville’s most established programs. The Cardinals have developed numerous All-Americans and four-year college players, while longtime coach Dan Blue became the winningest baseball coach in program history. The program continues to compete at the NJCAA Division II level against some of the strongest junior college baseball programs in the Mid-Atlantic.
CCBC Catonsville also continues to expand opportunities across its athletic department. Cross country returned after an extended absence and has developed into a competitive men’s and women’s program, while track and field provides another pathway for Cardinal student-athletes to compete regionally and nationally.
As part of the larger Community College of Baltimore County athletic system, Catonsville helps make junior college athletics an important piece of Maryland’s sports landscape. CCBC reports approximately 350 student-athletes across its athletic programs, with partial athletic scholarships awarded to roughly half of its student-athletes.
Maryland Sports Blog’s CCBC Catonsville Athletics coverage follows the Cardinals throughout the year with game recaps, previews, schedules, scores, postseason coverage, recruiting news, honors, features and other developments involving Catonsville student-athletes and coaches.
