Delmarva Shorebirds Fall 10-8 to Fredericksburg Nationals After 11 Walks

The Delmarva Shorebirds fell 10-8 to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Jordan Sanchez gave the Shorebirds an early lead with a three-run home run, but the Fredericksburg Nationals scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on for the win.

Delmarva entered the game with a 36-67 overall record and a 13-24 record in the relevant split. Fredericksburg entered at 63-39 overall and 17-19 in the relevant split.

Fredericksburg Overcomes Delmarva9s Early Lead

Sanchez put Delmarva ahead 3-0 with his home run in the top of the first inning. The lead disappeared quickly when Fredericksburg scored six runs in the bottom half on just two hits and six walks, including two walks with the bases loaded. Dashyll Tejeda and Luke Dickerson each delivered two-run base hits as the Nationals took a 6-3 lead after one inning.

Shorebirds9 Home Runs Keep Game Close

Andrew Tess brought Delmarva within one run in the fourth inning with a two-run home run. It was Tess9 first Single-A home run and made the score 6-5. Coy James answered for Fredericksburg with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. He added an RBI double in the sixth, extending the Nationals9 lead to 9-5.

Stiven Martinez hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to cut Delmarva9s deficit to 9-6. Jaiden Lo Re scored on a passed ball in the seventh, making it 9-7, but Manuel Cabrera9s RBI single in the bottom half restored Fredericksburg9s three-run lead at 10-7.

Martinez scored again in the eighth inning after a throwing error on a double-steal attempt. The play brought Delmarva within two runs, but the Shorebirds could not complete the comeback.

Walks Prove Costly for Delmarva

Delmarva issued 11 walks, and eight of those walked-in runs helped Fredericksburg turn two hits into a six-run first inning. The free passes contributed heavily to the 10-8 victory for the Nationals.

Pitching and Next Game

Noah Millikan earned the win as Fredericksburg9s starter, while Esteban Mejia took the loss for Delmarva. L.J. Waco earned the save. The Shorebirds were scheduled to try to even the series Wednesday against the Fredericksburg Nationals. Andrew Herbert was set to start for Delmarva against Landon Harmon, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Delmarva9s three home runs kept the Shorebirds within reach, but Fredericksburg9s six-run first inning created an early deficit. The 11 walks issued by Delmarva, including eight that scored, gave the Nationals additional opportunities despite producing only two hits in the opening inning.

Delmarva will aim to limit free passes in Wednesday9s scheduled game against Fredericksburg.
