Orioles Lock Up Their Ace: Kyle Bradish Signs Five-Year, $90 Million Extension

Orioles Lock Up Their Ace: Kyle Bradish Signs Five-Year, $90 Million Extension

By Brian Hradsky | Maryland Sports Blog

The Baltimore Orioles made one of the biggest statements of the 2026 season on Saturday, agreeing to a five-year, $90 million contract extension with ace right-hander Kyle Bradish. The deal keeps one of baseball’s premier starting pitchers in Baltimore through the 2031 season and buys out three of his potential free-agent years.

For a franchise that has spent years building through the draft, player development, and smart trades, this move sends a clear message: the Orioles intend to keep their championship core together.

A Homegrown Ace

Bradish’s journey to becoming Baltimore’s ace has been remarkable.

Acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in the December 2019 trade that sent Dylan Bundy west, Bradish steadily developed through the Orioles’ farm system before making his major league debut in 2022. He emerged as one of the American League’s best starters during the Orioles’ playoff run in 2023 and battled back from Tommy John surgery to return to form.

This season, Bradish has once again proven why he belongs among baseball’s elite.

2026 Stats

  • 19 starts
  • 3.61 ERA
  • 106 strikeouts
  • 107.1 innings pitched

Career Stats

  • 86 starts
  • 25-24 record
  • 3.50 ERA
  • 485 strikeouts

Those numbers only tell part of the story. Bradish has consistently given Baltimore a chance to win every fifth day while establishing himself as one of the league’s toughest pitchers to square up.

More Than Just a Contract

The Orioles have shown a willingness to invest in their pitching staff, previously extending Shane Baz earlier this season. By locking up Bradish as well, Baltimore has secured the front of its rotation for years to come.

In today’s baseball landscape, elite starting pitching rarely reaches free agency. When teams develop an ace internally, the smartest move is often to keep him.

That is exactly what the Orioles have done.

A Signal to the Clubhouse

This extension is about more than Kyle Bradish.

It tells every player in the clubhouse that ownership is committed to winning.

It tells Orioles fans that the front office believes this club can compete for championships for years to come.

And it tells the rest of Major League Baseball that Baltimore is not interested in watching another homegrown star leave.

What It Means Going Forward

The Orioles now have stability at the top of their rotation through 2031.

For a team built around young stars and a deep farm system, having a legitimate ace under contract gives Baltimore a foundation that every contender needs. Bradish has already proven he can pitch in big games, and his leadership on and off the field makes him one of the organization’s most valuable players.

As the Orioles continue chasing another postseason berth, fans can take comfort knowing the man who takes the ball on Opening Day for years to come will likely be wearing orange and black.

MSB Take

This is exactly the move Orioles fans have been waiting to see.

Too often, small-market clubs develop stars only to watch them leave once free agency arrives. Baltimore has changed that narrative by investing in one of the best pitchers it has developed in decades.

Kyle Bradish has earned every dollar of this extension. He has overcome injuries, developed into a true No. 1 starter, and become the heartbeat of the Orioles’ rotation.

If the Orioles want to become perennial World Series contenders, this is the blueprint: draft well, develop talent, and reward your stars.

Saturday’s announcement is not just about keeping an ace.

It is about building a championship culture that Orioles fans have been waiting years to see.
