BALTIMORE — Academic excellence continues to be a defining characteristic of Johns Hopkins athletics.

Three standout Blue Jays—Erika Ezumba, Mackenzie Setton, and Jorge Gana—have earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honors, recognizing their remarkable achievements in both the classroom and athletic competition during the 2025-26 academic year. The awards place them among the nation’s elite student-athletes and further strengthen Johns Hopkins’ reputation as one of the country’s premier academic and athletic institutions.

The recognition comes during another outstanding year for Hopkins athletics, with Blue Jay teams competing for national championships while maintaining some of the highest academic standards in NCAA Division III.

Jorge Gana Adds Another Historic Honor

Recent graduate Jorge Gana was named a CSC Academic All-America Second Team selection in the men’s at-large category after an exceptional fencing career.

The neuroscience major was one of the nation’s most accomplished fencers both academically and competitively. Gana helped Johns Hopkins remain among the top fencing programs in the nation while compiling an outstanding academic record. His Academic All-America selection adds to an already impressive collection of honors earned throughout his Blue Jays career.

Johns Hopkins has become synonymous with academic success, and Gana’s recognition continues that tradition.

Erika Ezumba Finishes Career Among Hopkins’ Best

Senior thrower Erika Ezumba capped one of the greatest careers in Johns Hopkins women’s track and field history by earning CSC Academic All-America honors.

Ezumba enjoyed a spectacular 2026 season that included multiple NCAA Division III All-America performances. During the NCAA Indoor Championships, she finished runner-up in the weight throw before earning another All-America honor in the shot put after setting a new Johns Hopkins school record with a throw of 13.73 meters. She became the first athlete in program history to earn All-America honors in the indoor shot put.

Throughout her career, Ezumba consistently balanced elite performances in national competition with excellence in the classroom, making her one of the premier scholar-athletes in Division III track and field.

Mackenzie Setton Continues Award-Winning Career

Distance standout Mackenzie Setton also earned CSC Academic All-America recognition following another dominant season.

Setton concluded her indoor campaign by capturing All-America honors in the mile, finishing fourth nationally while posting one of the fastest times in Johns Hopkins history. Her performance helped lead the Blue Jays to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, one of the best national finishes in program history.

Known for her consistency in championship races, Setton has established herself as one of the most accomplished middle-distance runners ever to compete for Johns Hopkins.

Excellence Beyond Competition

The CSC Academic All-America program honors student-athletes who demonstrate elite athletic achievement while maintaining exceptional academic performance. Nominees must meet strict GPA requirements and distinguish themselves nationally within their respective sports.

For Johns Hopkins, the recognition is nothing new.

The university annually ranks among the national leaders in Academic All-America selections across all NCAA divisions, reflecting its commitment to developing complete student-athletes who excel in competition, the classroom, and the community.
