Frederick Keys Weekly Recap: Keys Keep Rolling Behind Big Bats And Dominant Pitching
The Frederick Keys continued one of the strongest stretches in the South Atlantic League this week, battling through rain delays, doubleheaders and a challenging series against the Greenville Drive. Frederick finished the week with momentum after winning four of six games and extending its division lead behind dominant pitching and timely offense.

Several Orioles prospects continued trending upward throughout the week. Outfielder Vance Honeycutt delivered another power surge, Victor Figueroa stayed hot at the plate and left-hander Boston Bateman continued emerging as one of the organization’s most intriguing young pitchers.
Frederick scored 34 runs during the week while allowing only 24. The pitching staff struck out more than 60 hitters during the six-game stretch and the Keys defense continued improving after several rough early-season weeks.
Tuesday, May 19
Greenville Drive 7, Frederick Keys 3
The series against Greenville started poorly for Frederick.
The Drive jumped ahead early with a three-run second inning and never surrendered the lead. Frederick struggled with command on the mound and issued several costly walks that quickly turned into runs.
Vance Honeycutt provided one of the few bright spots offensively with a two-hit game and an RBI double. Victor Figueroa also continued his strong month with another multi-hit performance.
Despite the loss, the Keys bullpen stabilized the game late and kept Greenville from completely blowing things open.
Wednesday, May 20
Frederick Keys 6, Greenville Drive 4
Frederick answered immediately the next day.
The Keys used a three-run seventh inning to pull away and even the series. Boston Bateman turned in one of his sharpest starts of the season, attacking hitters aggressively with his fastball and slider combination.
Bateman struck out seven hitters across five innings while allowing only two runs. The left-hander lowered his ERA again and continued establishing himself as one of the Orioles system’s breakout arms.
Honeycutt launched another home run while Victor Figueroa added two RBIs during the victory. Frederick collected 11 hits overall and consistently pressured Greenville pitching with aggressive baserunning.
Thursday, May 21
Rainout
Heavy rain postponed Thursday night’s game and forced a Sunday doubleheader. The extra rest ultimately helped Frederick’s pitching staff heading into the weekend.
Friday, May 22
Greenville Drive 5, Frederick Keys 2
Greenville regained momentum Friday night behind strong starting pitching.
The Drive held Frederick to only five hits while limiting the Keys’ power bats. Frederick stranded multiple runners in scoring position and failed to capitalize on several early opportunities.
Victor Figueroa doubled while Payton Eeles continued reaching base consistently near the top of the lineup. Still, Greenville controlled the late innings after building a 4-1 lead entering the seventh.
The Keys bullpen kept the game manageable, but the offense never mounted a serious comeback threat.
Saturday, May 23
Frederick Keys 8, Greenville Drive 3
Frederick exploded offensively Saturday night.
The Keys pounded out 13 hits and scored in five different innings during one of their most complete games of the season. Honeycutt homered again while Ryan Stafford delivered a huge three-hit performance.
Victor Figueroa continued his outstanding week with two more RBIs and a stolen base. Frederick’s offense repeatedly attacked early fastballs and forced Greenville pitchers into hitter-friendly counts.
Joseph Dzierwa dominated on the mound with eight strikeouts across five innings. The left-hander generated swings and misses consistently and continued building momentum after earning Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Month honors earlier in May.
Sunday, May 24 – Game 1
Frederick Keys 4, Greenville Drive 1
The Keys started the doubleheader with another strong pitching performance.
Frederick jumped ahead early behind RBI hits from Braydon Smith and Payton Eeles before the bullpen closed the door late. The pitching staff combined to allow only one run during the seven-inning contest.
The defense also turned one of its cleanest games of the season. Frederick avoided costly mistakes and converted several difficult plays in the infield.
Eeles finished with two hits and continued one of the hottest stretches on the roster.
Sunday, May 24 – Game 2
Frederick Keys 7, Greenville Drive 2
Frederick completed the doubleheader sweep in dominant fashion.
The Keys offense erupted early with a four-run second inning and never looked back. Honeycutt blasted another extra-base hit while Ryan Stafford drove in multiple runs again.
Frederick’s bullpen completely shut down Greenville over the final three innings and preserved the comfortable lead. The Keys finished the game with 10 hits and continued showcasing improved plate discipline throughout the lineup.
The sweep capped another impressive week for one of the Orioles organization’s fastest-rising affiliates.
