With the fifteenth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, The Washington Redskins select……………..

The NFL Draft is fast approaching. It will take place April 25 thru April 27th live from Nashville, Tennessee. The Washington Redskins currently have the 15th overall pick. What will they do with the pick? That is a tough call, to be honest with you. They could go a lot of different directions with their draft approach. The Redskins have a lot of voids that need to be filled.

I have a feeling they will take a quarterback with the pick to compete with Colt McCoy and Case Keenum for the starting job in 2019. Will they try to trade up to get Kyler Murray? He won’t be available at 15.

The Redskins would have to move up if they really want him. Let’s say they don’t and Arizona takes Kyler #1. Josh Rosen who Arizona drafted last year will most likely be put on the trade block. Will the Redskins try to trade for Rosen? They showed interest in him at the NFL combine earlier this month. The Redskins would get him on his rookie contract and only probably have to give up a 2nd or 3rd round pick to get him. I doubt they would do it for their first-round pick.

What about Dwayne Haskins? Could he be a fit in Washington? He seemed to be a lock for the Giants. Now according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, she mentioned on the Breaking Big Blue podcast, the Giants feel he doesn’t fit their scheme. Perhaps plans changed once the Odell Beckham Jr trade went down. He may drop a bit since the Giants seem to be out of the market for him. Even tho they still need a quarterback themselves. Eli’s best days are behind him. Of all the teams picking ahead of Washington, Denver at 10, Cinncinati at 11 and Miami at 13 are the only teams that really need to draft a quarterback. Denver may wait for a while. John Elway is quoted as saying that Joe Flacco is entering his prime at age 34. We shall see about that.

If they stay at 15, two guys could still be there. Missouri’s Drew Lock and Duke’s Daniel Jones. Some mock drafts have Washingon going with one of these guys. I’d be ok with either one of them. Both guys are tall. Lock is 6’4 225 Jones is 6’5 220. That is quite impressive. It’s been a while since the Redskins have had a quarterback with that kind of size. It would be greatly welcomed for sure.
I would be ok if the Redskins decided to get a WR here at 15. If D.K. Metcalf from Ole Miss drops that far back in the draft, I would take him. Since DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon left the team two seasons ago, the Redskins have not found a consistent replacement for either of them. This guy could be a game changer. He’s 6’3 and ran a 4.3 at the NFL Combine. Washington needs a playmaker with that kind of size and speed.

Washington could possibly go defense with the pick. They need an edge rusher with the departure of Preston Smith to the Packers. Getting more help for the secondary could be an option too. As well as linebacker. Depth along the offensive line is needed badly as well. I would like to see them bring in some veterans to fill those roster spots, but drafting some lineman would not hurt either. The last two seasons, Washington’s offensive line fell apart due to injuries. When healthy, the line is solid. The only problem is you don’t have much depth to help if guys go down. This has to be addressed. The team just added former Giants tackle Ereck Flowers on a one year deal according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He will have a second chance to get his career on track after a tough 4 years in the NFL to this point.

I just hope the team is smart with the pick. Maybe they wanna trade back and get more picks. Whatever they decide to do, I hope they bring someone in who is determined to win and put in the work to succeed. Maybe they will draft another Alabama guy. That seems to be the theme at Redskins Park these days. Those guys come from a great system with Nick Saban. They have that winning mentality build in them. This will be an interesting draft for the Redskins. I hope they make it a good one.
