Washington College women’s volleyball defeated host Goucher, 3-0, on Sept. 30 at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center in Towson, Maryland. Washington College won the non-conference match by set scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-11 to improve to 9-3, while Goucher fell to 6-7.
Washington College Controls Match
Washington College hit .278 as a team, compared with Goucher’s -.044, and finished with nine aces and seven blocks. The Shorewomen opened the first set with a 4-1 lead and never trailed after Lyndsey Wessel’s kill.
Washington College led 20-15 in the opening set before scoring three consecutive points. Wessel added a kill during the run, Emily Hartnett recorded an ace and Izzy Diehl contributed a finish before closing the set with another kill.
Goucher took a 4-3 lead in the second set, but Washington College answered with seven straight points to move ahead 10-4. Goucher later cut the deficit to 23-17, but Washington College won two of the final three points to secure the set.
Diehl Leads Washington College Attack
Izzy Diehl led Washington College with 16 kills and added four blocks. Lyndsey Wessel recorded seven kills, hit .583 and finished with four blocks.
Alexis Stubbs supplied 19 assists and four aces, while Emily Hartnett recorded nine digs. Gianna Folke added two kills during Washington College’s six-point opening run in the third set, and Nora Biddle followed with two aces as the Shorewomen extended their lead to 12-4.
Addison Carr recorded the final two kills of the match as Washington College completed the 25-11 third-set victory. The Shorewomen scored the first six points of the set and finished the non-conference sweep without dropping a set.
Washington College Women’s Volleyball Schedule
Washington College was scheduled to visit Widener at 7 p.m. on Oct. 1, 2026, for another non-conference women’s volleyball match. The contest was the next listed match for the Shorewomen.

Washington College combined efficient hitting with strong serving and blocking in the sweep. The Shorewomen’s .278 hitting percentage, nine aces and seven blocks provided a statistical foundation for the three-set victory.
Washington College also received balanced production from Diehl, Wessel, Stubbs and Hartnett. The six-point start to the third set helped the Shorewomen close out the match decisively.
