Washington College Women’s Volleyball Falls to Widener After Leading 2-0

Washington College Women’s Volleyball lost to Widener, 3-2, in a non-conference match at the Schwartz Center in Chester, Pa., on October 1, 2026. Washington College won the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-16, before Widener rallied to win the final three, 25-17, 30-28 and 15-11.

The loss dropped Washington College to 9-4, while Widener improved to 2-13. Washington College held a 2-1 lead after the third set but could not close out the match after Widener forced a deciding fifth set.

Washington College Women’s Volleyball Takes Early Lead

The first set was tied at 19-19 before Izzy Diehl recorded three kills to give Washington College a 24-21 advantage. Widener committed a service error on set point, allowing Washington College to take the opener, 25-22. Washington College led 17-15 in the second set before closing with an 8-1 run. Alexis Stubbs recorded an ace during the closing stretch, and a Widener error provided the final point as Washington College moved ahead 2-0.

Widener responded in the third set after taking an 8-6 lead. The Pride used an 8-3 run to move ahead 16-9 and went on to win the set, 25-17, cutting Washington College’s lead to 2-1.

Widener Wins Final Two Sets

Washington College trailed 21-17 in the fourth set before winning seven of the next 10 points to tie the score at 24-24. The teams traded points from there, but Widener won the final three points to take the set, 30-28, and force a fifth set. Diehl recorded six of her 17 kills in the fourth set.

Lyndsey Wessel had four kills in the deciding set, including one that cut Widener’s lead to 13-11. Widener scored the final two points to secure the match on an assisted block.

Izzy Diehl Leads Washington College Attack

Diehl finished with a match-high 17 kills and 10 digs for Washington College. Kaysie Lynch recorded 20 assists and 11 digs, giving both players double-doubles. Gianna Folke added 12 kills, while Wessel finished with 11. Stubbs recorded 26 assists, three aces and a career-best five blocks, and Emma Shaner added six blocks.

Washington College hit .178 and finished with five aces and nine blocks. Widener hit .142.

Washington College Begins Centennial Conference Play

Washington College was scheduled to begin Centennial Conference play against Gettysburg on October 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. This match followed Washington College’s loss to Widener despite the Shorewomen’s initial two-set lead.
