Washington College Women’s Soccer Loses 1-0 to Eastern After Saige Korpics Header

Washington College women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Eastern in a non-conference match Thursday, September 3, at Olson Field in St. Davids, Pa. Saige Korpics scored the game’s only goal at the 29:35 mark of the first half, heading in a corner kick from Heather Abzug.

Eastern opened its season with a victory, while Washington College moved to 1-1-0 on the season.

Washington College Creates Second-Half Opportunities

Washington College took nine shots and seven corner kicks in the match, including five shots on goal compared with two for Eastern. Ruby Lane nearly equalized in the 66th minute when Eastern’s goalkeeper saved her shot from about 25 yards. The effort was headed toward the upper-right corner but was stopped by the Eagles’ keeper.

With about a minute remaining, Washington College earned a corner kick, but Eastern cleared the ball and ran out the clock. Rylee Louden played the first half in goal for the Shorewomen, making one save and allowing one goal, while Olivia Allen played the second half, making no saves and conceding no goals.

Washington College to Host Marymount Next

The Shorewomen will host Marymount in a non-conference game Saturday, September 5, at 7 p.m.

Despite producing five shots on goal and seven corner kicks, Washington College fell short as Eastern converted its key scoring opportunity in the first half. The Shorewomen created a chance to tie through Ruby Lane and earned a late corner, yet Eastern held on to its one-goal advantage.
