Washington College Shorewomen Field Hockey Names Charlotte Schurman Centennial Defensive Player of the Week

Washington College Shorewomen Field Hockey goalkeeper Charlotte Schurman earned the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of September 7-13, 2026. The senior goalkeeper received the first Centennial Conference weekly award of her career.

Schurman stopped 20 shots and posted a .909 save percentage across two games. She made 14 saves at third-ranked Salisbury on September 9, finishing one save shy of her career high.

Schurman Preserves Shutout Against Susquehanna

Schurman followed that performance with six saves in Washington College’s 1-0 victory over Susquehanna on September 12. She made a save with 51 seconds remaining to preserve the Shorewomen’s lead and the shutout.

Schurman became the first Shorewoman to earn the Centennial Conference field hockey Defensive Player of the Week award since Kate Gromacki received the honor on October 10, 2023. Washington College is scheduled to return to action at Stockton on September 16 at 7 p.m.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Schurman’s recognition reflects two strong defensive performances during the award period. Her 14-save effort against third-ranked Salisbury preceded a six-save performance against Susquehanna, including the late stop that protected a one-goal victory and shutout.

The award is the first Centennial Conference weekly honor of Schurman’s career and gives the Shorewomen a notable defensive milestone early in the season.
