Washington College announced a $1.5 million commitment from the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation to expand scholarship access through the Hogan Institute. Including a related matching challenge, the effort is expected to generate $4.5 million for middle-income students.

Students Pursue Research and Internship Projects
Imogene Nuss ’28 spent the summer as a Toll Research Fellow while preparing for professor Emerald Andrews’ Math of Quilting course, studying foundation paper pieceable quilts. Noah Gibson ’27 and professor Quin H. Hu collaborated on research involving DREADDs in computational chemistry through the John S. Toll Research program. Meanwhile, business major Cecilia Johnston ’27 gained database management experience during an Explore America internship at a museum focused on the history of American industry.
Faculty, Convocation and Business School Updates
The first season of Washington College’s Washington Insider Series will feature college authors who contributed to a 2026 book on fundamental information literacy skills essential for lifelong civic engagement, presented through video interviews. Fall 2026 Convocation officially opened the academic year with a keynote by the year’s distinguished teaching award winner, welcoming the Class of 2030 and honoring alumni. Additionally, Caddie Putnam Rankin, associate professor of business management, was appointed inaugural dean of the Warehime School of Business, having helped design its mission, composition, and curriculum over the past two years. Emmy Award-winning producer and college professor Stephany Slaughter ’94 directed a documentary about Michigan agriculture that has received accolades at film festivals.
Washington College Continues School-District Partnerships
The college signed memorandums of understanding with Kent County and Queen Anne’s County school districts to expand opportunities for current and future teachers, as well as public school students.
