Towson’s Mikey Weisshaar Earns Spot on U.S. Men’s Lacrosse Sixes Team

Former Towson University men’s lacrosse standout Mikey Weisshaar will represent the United States on the international stage after earning a spot on the 12-player U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the 2026 Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Sixes Championship.

USA Lacrosse announced the roster Monday, with Weisshaar among 10 runners and two goalies selected for the tournament. The competition will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 4 in Oshawa, Ontario, and serves as a continental qualifier for the inaugural World Lacrosse Sixes Championships scheduled for October 2027 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

For Weisshaar, the selection represents another major accomplishment in a year that has included the conclusion of a historic Towson career and the beginning of his professional career with the Boston Cannons. The Arnold, Maryland, native finished his collegiate career as Towson’s all-time points leader with 234 and tied the program record with 154 goals.

Weisshaar Headed to Canada

Weisshaar and the United States will compete in Pool A alongside Chile, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Pool B consists of Brazil, Canada, the Haudenosaunee Nationals and Mexico. The United States opens tournament competition against Chile on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. ET.

The Pan-American tournament carries additional importance because it is part of the qualification process for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships. It also provides another opportunity for USA Lacrosse to develop its sixes program ahead of the sport’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Sixes is significantly different from the traditional field game Weisshaar played at Towson. The discipline features six players per side, a 30-second shot clock and draws only at the beginning of each quarter, creating a faster game with frequent transitions and opportunities for players who can contribute at both ends.

That style should be familiar to Weisshaar. He previously participated in U.S. sixes training and has been involved with the national-team program for multiple years. During a 2024 sixes training camp, Weisshaar was one of the youngest players involved and trained alongside another former Towson standout, Ryan Drenner.

Historic Career at Towson

Weisshaar leaves Towson as one of the most accomplished offensive players in program history.

He finished his career with 234 points on 154 goals and 80 assists. Weisshaar became Towson’s career points leader and tied the program’s career goals record, achievements that helped establish his place among the best offensive players to wear a Tigers uniform.

His senior season further strengthened that résumé. Weisshaar started all 15 games and recorded 47 goals and 29 assists for 76 points. He also collected 34 ground balls and caused five turnovers while finishing second nationally with 5.07 points per game and fifth with 3.13 goals per game.

Weisshaar recorded at least three goals eight times during the 2026 season and produced at least five points in nine games. His production helped Towson finish 11-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.

His accomplishments resulted in another collection of postseason honors. Weisshaar earned CAA Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season and was named First Team All-CAA. He also earned second-team All-America recognition from the USILA and USA Lacrosse and third-team honors from Inside Lacrosse.

Weisshaar was also a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee for the second consecutive year, becoming just the second player in Towson history to earn multiple nominations for the award.

Three-Time All-American

Weisshaar’s success was hardly limited to his senior season.

He developed from a CAA All-Rookie Team selection in 2023 into one of college lacrosse’s premier midfielders and eventually transitioned to attack. As a freshman, Weisshaar scored 17 goals and contributed eight assists while starting 12 of his 13 appearances.

His breakout arrived in 2024. Weisshaar scored a team-high 42 goals and added 19 assists for 61 points while starting all 17 games on Towson’s first midfield line. His performance earned him first-team All-America recognition from Inside Lacrosse, second-team honors from the USILA and third-team recognition from USA Lacrosse.

He continued developing in 2025, earning CAA Offensive Player of the Year honors and helping Towson win the conference tournament. Weisshaar was named the CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player and earned third-team All-America recognition from multiple organizations.

His ability to deliver in important situations became one of the defining characteristics of his Towson career. In March 2025, for example, Weisshaar scored six goals, including the overtime winner, in Towson’s 19-18 victory over Delaware. USA Lacrosse subsequently selected him as its national men’s Player of the Week.

From Archbishop Spalding to Towson

Weisshaar’s selection also gives Maryland another representative on the international lacrosse stage.

The Arnold native attended Archbishop Spalding High School, where he developed into one of the country’s top recruits. Inside Lacrosse rated Weisshaar as the No. 14 recruit in the 2022 class. He was a USA Lacrosse High School All-American in 2021 and 2022 and earned the C. Markland Kelly Award and Capital Gazette Player of the Year honors in 2021.

Weisshaar remained close to home for college and developed into a cornerstone of the Towson program.

That path has now taken him from Anne Arundel County to Towson, professional lacrosse and the United States national-team program.

Second Overall Pick Begins Professional Career

Weisshaar’s international selection comes during his first professional season.

The Boston Cannons selected him with the second overall pick in the 2026 Premier Lacrosse League College Draft. He became the highest-drafted Towson player since the PLL was founded and the fifth Tiger selected in the league’s college draft.

His selection followed several other highly drafted Towson players, including Zach Goodrich, Alex Woodall and Koby Smith. Weisshaar entered professional lacrosse following one of the most productive individual careers in Towson history.

USA Lacrosse noted in June that Weisshaar had recorded two goals and an assist through his first three professional appearances with Boston. That announcement came when Weisshaar was added to a U.S. men’s field national-team training camp, giving him experience in both the traditional field and sixes national-team pipelines.

Loaded U.S. Roster

Weisshaar joins a talented American roster in Canada.

The runners are Matt Campbell, Aidan Carroll, Pat Kavanagh, Connor Kirst, Danny Logan, Coulter Mackesy, Aidan Maguire, Andrew McAdorey, Michael Sowers and Weisshaar. Liam Entenmann and former Maryland Terrapin Logan McNaney are the two goalies.

Several members of the roster already have extensive international experience. Logan and Sowers have won medals with the U.S. national-team program, including gold medals at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship. Kavanagh and Entenmann previously won world championships at the 2021 World Lacrosse Men’s U21 Championship.

The Pan-American Championship will not be the final international event for the U.S. sixes program this year. USA Lacrosse is scheduled to host Canada, the Haudenosaunee Nationals and Ireland at the Atlas Cup in Sparks, Maryland, from Oct. 23-25. The United States is also scheduled to participate in the Global Lacrosse Games in Springfield, Virginia, in December.

Those competitions are increasingly significant as USA Lacrosse works toward Los Angeles 2028, when lacrosse returns to the Olympic program using the sixes format.

Another Major Accomplishment for a Towson Great

Few players leave a college program having accomplished what Weisshaar did at Towson.

He developed from a highly regarded Maryland recruit into a three-time All-American, two-time CAA Offensive Player of the Year, conference champion, record-setting scorer and No. 2 overall professional draft selection. Now he can add U.S. national-team player to that list.

The accomplishment also puts Towson men’s lacrosse back on an international stage. Weisshaar previously spoke about the significance of representing Towson alongside Drenner during national-team training in 2024, and his progression from those training opportunities to a spot on the 12-man tournament roster represents another step in his career.

Weisshaar will get his first opportunity in tournament competition when the United States faces Chile on Sept. 29.

Mikey Weisshaar’s selection should be viewed as another significant accomplishment for both the player and Towson men’s lacrosse. He did virtually everything possible during his college career, leaving as the program’s all-time points leader after developing into one of the best offensive players in Division I lacrosse.

Sixes also appears well suited to Weisshaar’s skill set. His speed, scoring ability, passing and experience playing both midfield and attack give him the versatility needed in a format built around constant movement and rapid transition. The fact that USA Lacrosse has worked with Weisshaar in the sixes program since at least 2024 makes his selection to this tournament roster a continuation of that development rather than an isolated opportunity.

For Maryland lacrosse fans, there is another reason to follow the tournament closely. Weisshaar went from Archbishop Spalding to Towson and then became the second overall selection in the PLL Draft. Now one of the greatest scorers in Towson history will put on a USA jersey with an opportunity to help the Americans qualify for a world championship.

That is a fitting next chapter for one of the best players Towson men’s lacrosse has produced in recent years.
