Towson vs. Sacred Heart Football Preview: Tigers Seek Second Straight Win

By Brian Hradsky

The Towson Tigers will look to build on their first victory of the 2026 season when they travel to Fairfield, Connecticut, to face the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday, November 7. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Sikorsky Credit Union Field, with the game available on FloCollege. Towson enters the Colonial Athletic Association matchup at 1-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while Sacred Heart stands at 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the CAA. The meeting marks the first time these two programs have faced each other on the football field.

Towson Finally Breaks Through Against Hampton

After enduring eight consecutive losses to open the season, Towson delivered its most complete performance of the year with a commanding 44-13 Homecoming victory over Hampton on October 31. The Tigers dominated on the ground, rushing for 334 yards while limiting Hampton to just 47 rushing yards. Freshman quarterback Jacob Davis provided a dual-threat spark, completing 19 of 26 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another 109 yards and a score. The victory offered head coach Pete Shinnick and his players a much-needed confidence boost entering the final stretch of the season.

Running back Kemarrion Battles produced one of the most memorable plays in Towson football history during the victory. Battles exploded for a 91-yard touchdown run, establishing a new school record for the longest rushing play. The previous record belonged to Jason Corle, who recorded an 84-yard run against Wagner in 1996. Battles now has 432 rushing yards and three touchdowns this season, giving the Tigers another dangerous offensive weapon alongside Davis.

Jacob Davis Gives Towson a New Offensive Dimension

One of Towson’s most encouraging developments has been the emergence of freshman quarterback Jacob Davis. Since stepping into the starting role against Stony Brook in October, Davis has demonstrated the ability to create explosive plays through both the passing and rushing attacks. His 337 passing yards against Stony Brook represented the highest single-game total by a Towson freshman quarterback since Sean Schaefer threw for 383 yards against Northeastern in 2005. Against Hampton, Davis demonstrated that his mobility could be just as valuable as his arm.

Davis will face another important test against a Sacred Heart defense that has helped the Pioneers establish themselves as a competitive CAA newcomer. Towson’s ability to combine designed quarterback runs, traditional rushing plays and downfield passing could create problems for Sacred Heart’s defensive front. The Tigers cannot rely exclusively on explosive plays, however, and must establish consistency on early downs. Sustaining drives and protecting possession will be essential if Towson hopes to secure its first road victory of the season.

Aaron Enterline Remains Towson’s Biggest Receiving Threat

Wide receiver Aaron Enterline has been one of Towson’s brightest offensive performers despite the team’s difficult season. The Penn State transfer has recorded 46 receptions for 682 yards and nine touchdowns, placing him among the leading touchdown receivers in the Football Championship Subdivision. Enterline scored a touchdown in each of his first seven games and has become a reliable target in critical situations. His nine touchdown receptions also place him within striking distance of Towson’s single-season record of 12.

Enterline’s ability to stretch the field could be especially important against Sacred Heart. The Pioneers must account for Davis as a runner while also preventing Enterline from creating separation downfield. Cleveland Charlton adds another dangerous option, entering the matchup with 25 receptions for 474 yards and four touchdowns. If Towson successfully balances its rushing attack with its explosive receiving corps, the Tigers could generate the offensive production necessary to challenge the Pioneers.

Sacred Heart Enters With Momentum

Sacred Heart has enjoyed a more successful season than Towson and enters Saturday’s contest riding a two-game winning streak. The Pioneers defeated Hampton 35-21 before escaping with a dramatic 32-31 road victory over Stony Brook on October 31. Sacred Heart completed a 94-yard touchdown drive in the closing moments against Stony Brook, scoring with just 11 seconds remaining. That performance demonstrated the Pioneers’ ability to execute under pressure and win a tightly contested conference game.

Quarterback Poochie Snyder has been central to Sacred Heart’s offensive success. The junior has completed 68.5% of his passes for 1,508 yards, 12 touchdowns and just three interceptions, while adding 350 rushing yards and three scores. Running back Chuck Webb has contributed 500 yards on 127 carries, giving the Pioneers a balanced offensive attack. Towson’s defense must remain disciplined against Snyder’s ability to extend plays and create opportunities outside the pocket.

Towson’s Defense Faces Another Challenge

Towson’s defensive unit will need to replicate the physicality it displayed against Hampton, particularly against the run. Defensive back TJ Sands leads the Tigers with 69 tackles, while linebacker Seth Chestnut has contributed 56 tackles. Myles Johnson has recorded two interceptions, and Bryan Lodge has added physicality in the secondary with two forced fumbles. Those defenders will be crucial in limiting Sacred Heart’s opportunities to extend drives.

Sacred Heart also features linebacker Myles Hamilton, who leads the Pioneers with 57 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks. Hamilton’s ability to disrupt plays behind the line of scrimmage presents a significant challenge for Towson’s offensive line. The Tigers must prevent negative-yardage plays from putting Davis into obvious passing situations. Establishing a productive rushing attack early could help neutralize Hamilton and create more favorable matchups throughout the afternoon.

Three Keys to a Towson Victory

1. Establish the Running Game

Towson rushed for 334 yards against Hampton, and another productive performance on the ground would dramatically improve its chances of winning. Davis and Battles give the Tigers two different rushing threats that Sacred Heart must defend. The offensive line needs to create running lanes early and prevent the Pioneers from controlling the line of scrimmage. If Towson can consistently gain four or five yards on first down, the Tigers will have opportunities to dictate the game’s tempo.

2. Pressure Poochie Snyder

Sacred Heart’s quarterback has demonstrated the ability to make plays with both his arm and legs. Towson must generate pressure without allowing Snyder to escape the pocket for significant gains. The Tigers should prioritize disciplined tackling and prevent the Pioneers from extending drives on third down. Forcing Sacred Heart into difficult passing situations could create opportunities for turnovers.

3. Finish Drives and Avoid Costly Mistakes

Towson has shown throughout the season that it can move the football, but its inability to consistently finish games has contributed to its disappointing record. The Tigers lost close contests against Monmouth, Stony Brook and Campbell before finally breaking through against Hampton. Against Sacred Heart, converting red-zone opportunities into touchdowns rather than field goals could make the difference. Protecting the football will also be essential against a Pioneers team that has generally avoided costly turnovers.

MSB Take: Towson Has a Real Opportunity to Win Again

Towson’s 1-8 record does not fully reflect the offensive potential this team has demonstrated throughout the season. The Tigers have developed an explosive passing attack, discovered a dynamic freshman quarterback and finally established a productive rushing game. Sacred Heart deserves respect for its 4-2 conference record and recent victories, but this matchup appears more competitive than the teams’ overall records might suggest. Towson’s performance against Hampton provides a legitimate reason to believe the Tigers can compete for a second consecutive victory.

The biggest question is whether Towson can sustain that level of execution away from home. Sacred Heart has shown the ability to win close games, and Snyder’s experience could become particularly valuable in the fourth quarter. However, Davis gives Towson a different offensive dimension, and the combination of Battles, Enterline and Charlton provides enough talent to challenge the Pioneers. If the Tigers avoid turnovers and establish the running game early, they have a realistic chance to leave Connecticut with another conference victory.

MSB Prediction: Towson 31, Sacred Heart 28.

Towson’s offense is beginning to show signs of finding its identity, and the momentum from its Homecoming victory could carry into Saturday’s matchup. Expect a competitive contest featuring explosive plays from both quarterbacks and several momentum swings. The Tigers have struggled to finish close games this season, but their improved rushing attack could help them control possession in the closing minutes. Maryland Sports Blog is picking Towson to earn its second consecutive victory in a close road contest.

What’s Next for Towson?

Following Saturday’s game, Towson will remain on the road for a November 14 matchup against Rhode Island. The Tigers will then conclude the regular season against Elon on November 21. Although postseason opportunities are no longer the primary storyline, the final three games provide important opportunities for player development and building momentum toward 2027. A strong finish would give Shinnick and his staff a more encouraging foundation entering the offseason.
