The Towson Tigers will look to end their seven-game losing streak Saturday afternoon when they travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina, to face the nationally ranked Campbell Fighting Camels in a Coastal Athletic Association matchup. Towson enters the contest with an 0-7 overall record and an 0-3 mark in conference play, while Campbell has emerged as one of the CAA’s strongest teams with a 5-1 record and a perfect 2-0 conference start. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium, where Campbell will celebrate its annual Homecoming game.

The matchup presents another difficult challenge for a Towson program that has struggled to turn competitive performances into victories. The Tigers have shown flashes of offensive potential throughout the season, but defensive inconsistencies and an inability to finish close games have prevented them from breaking into the win column. Campbell, meanwhile, enters the weekend ranked No. 16 in the Stats Perform FCS poll and No. 18 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, making Saturday’s contest one of Towson’s toughest remaining assignments.

Towson Looks to Bounce Back Following Stony Brook Loss

Towson enters Saturday’s matchup following a disappointing 31-24 home loss to Stony Brook on October 10. The Tigers fell behind 14-0 in the opening quarter before battling back and making the contest competitive in the second half. Towson scored 14 points in the third quarter but could not complete the comeback, allowing Stony Brook to escape Johnny Unitas Stadium with the victory. The defeat marked Towson’s seventh consecutive loss and its third straight setback against a CAA opponent.

Despite the winless record, Towson has remained competitive in several games, including a 41-40 loss to Monmouth on October 3 and a 33-28 defeat against Delaware State on September 26. The Tigers also suffered a narrow 21-18 season-opening loss to Maine, demonstrating that the team has been within striking distance of multiple victories. However, losses to Navy and South Carolina exposed the difficulties Towson has experienced against stronger opponents. The challenge now is finding a way to execute consistently for four quarters against a Campbell team that has established itself as a conference contender.

Campbell Riding Momentum Into Homecoming

Campbell enters the weekend having won three consecutive games, including a 38-31 victory over North Carolina Central on October 3. The Fighting Camels have also recorded impressive wins over North Carolina A&T, Hampton and Western Carolina, building momentum behind an explosive offense. Their only defeat came against Southeastern Conference opponent Florida, which handed Campbell a 52-3 loss on September 12. Since that setback, Campbell has responded with increasingly strong performances against FCS competition.

The Fighting Camels also benefit from an extra week of preparation after receiving a bye last weekend. Playing at home during Homecoming should provide an additional advantage, particularly with Campbell attempting to maintain its position near the top of the CAA standings. The Camels have developed into a nationally recognized program this season, and another conference victory would strengthen their postseason aspirations. Towson will need one of its most complete performances of the season to disrupt that momentum.

Towson’s Passing Attack Could Keep Tigers Competitive

Towson’s passing offense has been one of the team’s biggest strengths, averaging 269.9 yards per game, ranking second in the CAA and 16th nationally among FCS programs. Freshman quarterback Jacob Davis delivered an impressive performance in his first collegiate start against Stony Brook, completing 26 of 34 passes for 337 yards and two touchdowns. Davis also rushed for 66 yards, demonstrating the mobility that could help Towson extend plays against Campbell’s defense. His performance earned him CAA Rookie of the Week honors and gives the Tigers another promising option at quarterback.

Wide receiver Aaron Enterline has established himself as one of the most productive offensive players in the conference after transferring from Penn State. Enterline has recorded 41 receptions for 641 yards and nine touchdowns, finding the end zone in each of Towson’s first seven games. Cleveland Charlton has also emerged as a dangerous receiving option, collecting 19 receptions for 386 yards and four touchdowns. With multiple receivers capable of producing explosive plays, Towson has the personnel to challenge Campbell’s secondary if its offensive line provides sufficient protection.

Campbell Quarterback Kamden Sixkiller Presents Major Challenge

Campbell quarterback Kamden Sixkiller will be one of the most important players for Towson’s defense to contain Saturday afternoon. The senior has completed 67.2% of his passes for 1,675 yards and 14 touchdowns, helping Campbell establish one of the nation’s most productive offenses. The Fighting Camels average 474.7 total yards per game, ranking fourth nationally among FCS teams and first in the CAA. Their passing attack produces 289.8 yards per game, making Campbell particularly dangerous when opponents struggle to generate pressure.

Campbell also features a balanced rushing attack that averages 206.8 yards per contest, with six players having rushed for at least 100 yards this season. That versatility will force Towson to defend both the running game and explosive passing plays rather than concentrating on one aspect of the offense. The Tigers have surrendered 230.3 rushing yards per game and 36.3 points per contest, numbers that raise concerns entering Saturday’s matchup. Defensive leaders TJ Sands, who has 60 tackles, and Seth Chestnut, who has 48, will need strong performances to prevent Campbell from controlling the game.

History Favors Towson Despite Campbell’s Ranking

Although Campbell enters Saturday as the stronger team statistically, Towson has enjoyed considerable success in the brief history between the programs. The Tigers have won both previous meetings, including a dramatic 35-31 victory at Johnny Unitas Stadium on November 22, 2025. Charlton caught the game-winning 18-yard touchdown pass with just 38 seconds remaining, completing a late comeback against the Fighting Camels. Towson also defeated Campbell 45-23 during its previous trip to Buies Creek in 2024.

The history offers encouragement for a Towson team desperately searching for confidence after seven consecutive defeats. Head coach Pete Shinnick has previously guided the Tigers to victories over nationally ranked opponents, demonstrating that his program is capable of producing major upsets. However, Campbell’s 2026 team has significantly exceeded preseason expectations after being picked eighth in the CAA preseason poll. The Tigers cannot rely on previous results and must instead produce their strongest defensive performance of the season to extend their winning streak against Campbell.

Keys to the Game

Towson must establish some consistency in its running game to prevent Campbell from focusing exclusively on defending the pass. The Tigers average just 78.1 rushing yards per game, placing considerable pressure on their quarterbacks to generate offense through the air. A more productive ground attack would help Towson control possession, shorten the game and keep Campbell’s explosive offense on the sidelines. Limiting turnovers will also be essential after Stony Brook benefited from a plus-two turnover margin and a kickoff return touchdown in last weekend’s matchup.

Defensively, the Tigers must find a way to disrupt Sixkiller before Campbell develops an offensive rhythm. Allowing the Fighting Camels to establish their running game could create favorable passing situations and expose Towson’s secondary to explosive plays. The Tigers will also need to improve their tackling and limit yards after contact against Campbell’s balanced offensive attack. If Towson can force several punts, protect the football and capitalize on scoring opportunities, the Tigers could make Saturday’s matchup considerably closer than their records suggest.

Editorial prediction, not a reported result.

Campbell enters Saturday with clear advantages in offensive production, overall consistency and recent momentum. Towson’s passing attack has the potential to keep the Tigers competitive, particularly if Davis builds on his impressive performance against Stony Brook. However, Campbell’s ability to move the football both through the air and on the ground presents a difficult matchup for a Towson defense that has struggled throughout the season. The Fighting Camels should have enough offensive firepower to secure their sixth victory, although Towson could remain competitive if it avoids costly mistakes.

MSB Take

Towson’s 0-7 record is disappointing, particularly considering the expectations surrounding the program entering the season. The Tigers have enough offensive talent to compete in the CAA, but their inability to stop opposing rushing attacks has repeatedly undermined otherwise encouraging performances. Campbell represents a difficult opponent, especially on the road during Homecoming, but Towson’s recent success against the Fighting Camels offers some reason for optimism. The Tigers need to demonstrate meaningful improvement defensively before they can realistically expect to defeat one of the conference’s top teams.

Saturday’s matchup also provides an opportunity to evaluate the development of Towson’s younger players, particularly Davis and the emerging contributors on defense. Regardless of the final result, Shinnick needs his team to demonstrate discipline, consistency and the ability to compete for four quarters. A victory would represent one of the biggest upsets of the CAA season and could provide much-needed momentum heading into Towson’s bye week. Another defeat would leave the Tigers searching for answers with only four games remaining on their regular-season schedule.
