The Washington Spirit Women’s Soccer Team Faces Bay FC at Audi Field for First Hello Kitty Day

The Washington Spirit women’s soccer team faces Bay FC at Audi Field for the first Hello Kitty® Day on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match will air on ESPN2, and the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a cobranded “Spirit in Bloom” reversible Spirit x Hello Kitty® bucket hat.

Washington Spirit Seeks Response in August

The Washington Spirit has won all six previous meetings with Bay FC, including five regular-season matches and one playoff meeting. The Spirit has outscored Bay FC 14-4 in those contests. Ashley Hatch scored twice in Bay FC’s last visit to Audi Field.

The teams most recently met in early April, when the Spirit earned a victory behind a Bay FC own goal and an insurance goal from Gift Monday. The Spirit enters Sunday’s match winless in August with three losses and one draw, but remains in second place on the NWSL table. A victory would give the Spirit 12 wins in a season for the third consecutive year and the fourth time in club history.

With nine regular-season matches remaining, Trinity Rodman leads the Spirit with 10 goals and five assists in 2026. Rodman has set a new single-season career high in goals and is tied with Ashley Hatch for the most career regular-season goal contributions in Spirit history, with 61. Sofia Cantore and Leicy Santos have scored five goals each, and the Spirit’s 30 goals rank sixth in the league at the time of the source.

Since late March, the Spirit has allowed more than one goal in a match three times and has recorded eight clean sheets. The team has also scored multiple goals in eight matches during that span.

Bay FC Brings Recent Momentum

Bay FC recently ended a five-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dash. Cristiana Girelli scored her first career NWSL goal in the 89th minute, and Jordan Silkowitz made nine saves in the shutout win.

Silkowitz’s nine-save performance was tied for the most in a single NWSL match in 2026 at the time of the source. The shutout was Bay FC’s sixth regular-season clean sheet, while Silkowitz has recorded 157 saves since making her debut last year, more than any other goalkeeper in the league at the time of the source.

Thirteen different Bay FC players have scored through 20 regular-season matches. Karlie Lema leads the team with five goals, and Dorian Bailey is among four Bay FC players with multiple goals in 2026. Bay FC can move up two spots into 12th place with a win and favorable results elsewhere in the league.

Hello Kitty® Day at Audi Field

Sunday’s match will mark the Spirit’s first-ever Hello Kitty® Day at Audi Field. In addition to the bucket hat giveaway, the event will include a coloring and friendship bracelet station, a photo opportunity at the Hello Kitty®-branded SPIRIT letters, Hello Kitty® Trivia, and a Friendship Cam segment.

Kids Table will perform at the Spirit Stage near Gate A after the gates open until kickoff. Ryan Flood will perform the national anthem, and the Metropolitan Police Department Honor Guard will present the colors.

Montgomery Soccer Inc. and DC’s Maury Elementary School will participate in a seven-on-seven competition at halftime. Spiritville will also feature a temporary airbrush tattoo station, face painting, poster making, yard games, and additional photo areas.

What Comes Next

The Spirit will visit Portland Thorns FC on Sunday, Sept. 6, for its final regular-season trip to the West Coast. Bay FC will host the Kansas City Current the following Friday night in San Jose.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

The Spirit’s unbeaten history against Bay FC provides important context for Sunday’s match, but the team’s winless August stretch adds urgency to the regular-season meeting. Rodman’s production, the Spirit’s second-place standing, and the opportunity to reach 12 wins give the home team several significant objectives at Audi Field.

Bay FC enters with a recent shutout win and a strong performance from Silkowitz, creating a clear test for the Spirit’s attack. The first Hello Kitty® Day adds a promotional element to a match that remains important in the NWSL table.
