The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association set Sept. 4, 2026, as the first allowable play date for five fall sports and highlighted girls’ flag football’s sanctioned debut.
MPSSAA announced the 2026 fall sports start dates and confirmed that girls’ flag football will debut as a sanctioned sport after sponsorship exceeded the required 40% threshold.
MPSSAA will permit a two-flag belt in girls flag football competition during 2026 before requiring all schools to adopt a three-flag belt by 2027.
