Stevenson University Names Roger Jerez Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Esports

Stevenson University has named Roger Jerez its Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Esports. Senior Associate Athletics Director, Internal Operations & Recreation Matt Grimm announced the hiring Oct. 2, 2026, as Jerez brings more than a decade of collegiate recreation experience to the university in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Jerez will work in Stevenson’s Esports, Club Sports and Fitness areas. Grimm said Jerez’s experience in both competitive and non-competitive collegiate recreation distinguished him during the search process.

Roger Jerez Brings University of Pennsylvania Experience

Jerez joins Stevenson University after five years as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation-Competitive Sports at the University of Pennsylvania. He managed the budget, travel and operations for 38 club sport programs, oversaw more than 80 domestic trips and helped increase program revenue by 48 percent.

At Penn, Jerez also oversaw more than 50 home competitions and more than 60 weekly practices across the club sport programs. He introduced partnerships with JMI and Penn Sport Properties for championship merchandise and established a club sports sponsorship program.

“We are excited to add Roger to the Mustang family. His extensive experience in both the competitive and non-competitive aspects of collegiate recreation set him apart during the search process,” Grimm said. “I’m excited to see him elevate what we are doing in the Esports, Club Sports and Fitness areas here at Stevenson.”

Jerez Previously Worked at Delaware and Georgia Southern

Before joining the University of Pennsylvania, Jerez spent four years at the University of Delaware as the Intramural Sports Coordinator. He organized an annual esports tournament, worked with Athletics Marketing to increase visual content for intramural programs and supported the daily operations of more than 100 student employees.

Jerez began his Campus Recreation career at Georgia Southern University as a Graduate Assistant for Intramurals and Club Sports. He recruited, trained and evaluated more than 150 student staff members, including supervisors and officials, and helped schedule more than 23 team sports, individual sports and special events serving more than 5,000 participants.

Jerez holds a master’s degree in education from Georgia Southern University and a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of South Florida. He said he wants to help grow Stevenson’s Campus Recreation and Esports programs while investing in the students, coaches and staff involved with them.

“I’m excited to join Stevenson and help grow both the Campus Recreation and Esports programs into something that draws students to the University,” said Jerez. “I’m looking forward to investing in the students, coaches and staff here and building something special together.”
