Stevenson University men’s soccer defeated Gwynedd Mercy 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Owings Mills, Md., as Jorge Montecinos scored twice. The victory improved Stevenson to 5-1-2 on the season after the program recognized its senior class before the match.
Jorge Montecinos Scores Twice for Stevenson
Montecinos opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and Stevenson carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Mustangs outshot Gwynedd Mercy 11-1 during the opening half before adding four goals after the break.
Rylan Dauter doubled Stevenson’s lead in the 65th minute with an assist from Landon Eaton. Matthew Carlson scored 10 minutes later with an assist from Dauter, who finished with one goal, one assist and three points.
Shai Farmer added an unassisted goal in the 81st minute. Three and a half minutes later, Montecinos scored his second goal of the afternoon with an assist from Kameron Ross to complete the 5-0 result.
Stevenson Controls the Match
Montecinos led Stevenson with four points, while Carlson and Farmer each scored one goal. Eaton and Ross each recorded one assist as Stevenson finished with a 33-4 advantage in shots and an 18-1 edge in shots on goal.
Andrew Sindicic and Mason Shilling split time in goal for Stevenson, and Shilling made one save. Stevenson is scheduled to travel to Goucher on Wednesday, Sept. 30, for a 4 p.m. contest.
