Severn Admirals Men’s Lacrosse 2026 Season Recap: Admirals Battle Through MIAA Gauntlet, Finish 11-6 Against One of Nation’s Toughest Schedules
The Severn School Admirals entered the 2026 season knowing every game would feel like a playoff contest. Competing in the ultra-competitive MIAA A Conference, arguably the toughest high school lacrosse conference in America, the Admirals faced a schedule loaded with nationally ranked opponents, Division I recruits, and championship contenders.
When the dust settled, Severn finished 11-6 overall, reached the MIAA A Conference playoffs, and continued to establish itself as one of Maryland’s premier lacrosse programs under head coach Keegan Wilkinson. The Admirals scored 180 goals while allowing 159 and spent much of the spring ranked among Maryland’s top programs.
The final record does not fully capture how competitive Severn was throughout the season. Five of the team’s six losses came against some of the best programs in the nation, while several victories came in dramatic fashion against playoff-caliber opponents.
Most importantly, Severn developed another talented group of college-bound players while maintaining the program’s reputation for disciplined, team-first lacrosse.

Playing in the MIAA A Conference means there are no easy games.
Every week Severn faced opponents loaded with Division I talent. The Admirals had to navigate games against Archbishop Spalding, Calvert Hall, Loyola Blakefield, McDonogh, Boys’ Latin, Gilman and St. Paul’s while also taking on respected out-of-state competition.
The result was a season filled with adversity, growth and several signature victories.

Landon 8, Severn 6
The season opened with one of the toughest tests possible.
Landon controlled stretches of play and handed the Admirals a season-opening defeat. Despite the loss, Severn showed it could compete with elite competition and used the game as a measuring stick for the rest of the spring.

Severn 16, DeMatha 5
The response was immediate.
Severn exploded offensively against DeMatha, scoring 16 goals and dominating from start to finish. The attack looked sharp and the defense consistently forced turnovers.
The convincing victory gave the Admirals their first win of the season and jumpstarted a lengthy winning streak.

Severn 10, Christchurch 7
The Admirals traveled for spring break competition and earned a quality win over Christchurch.
Severn controlled possession for long stretches and delivered key goals late to secure a three-goal victory.

Severn 8, Perkiomen School 5
A day later, Severn completed a successful spring break trip.
The defense turned in one of its best performances of the season, holding Perkiomen to only five goals while the offense generated timely scoring opportunities.

Few teams keep St. Paul’s under five goals.
The Admirals delivered a defensive masterpiece, shutting down one of the area’s strongest programs and securing a signature road victory. The defense controlled the middle of the field while the goalie play remained outstanding throughout the afternoon.

One of the season’s most exciting games came against Gilman.
The teams traded goals throughout the afternoon before Severn found the decisive score late. The one-goal victory highlighted the poise and resilience of the Admirals.

The annual battle against neighboring Severna Park produced another entertaining chapter.
Severn controlled much of the contest and earned an important rivalry victory. The offense balanced scoring across several players while the defense delivered crucial stops in the fourth quarter.

Loyola Blakefield 14, Severn 10
Conference play intensified.
Loyola Blakefield capitalized on several key possessions and handed the Admirals their second loss. Despite the defeat, Severn’s offense continued to show it could score against elite competition.

The Admirals bounced back in impressive fashion.
Fourteen goals showcased the depth of Severn’s offense. Multiple players contributed to the scoring effort as the Admirals controlled the game from beginning to end.

One of the season’s defining wins.
The teams traded goals all afternoon in a high-scoring thriller. Severn found enough offense late and survived a furious Mount St. Joseph rally.
The victory demonstrated the team’s ability to execute under pressure against one of the conference’s most dangerous opponents.

Archbishop Spalding 14, Severn 10
Archbishop Spalding entered as one of Maryland’s top teams and showed why.
The Admirals battled throughout the game but could not overcome Spalding’s offensive firepower. Despite the loss, Severn remained firmly in the playoff hunt.

Senior Day turned into an offensive showcase.
The Admirals scored 16 goals and celebrated their senior class with one of the season’s most complete performances. The attack moved the ball beautifully while the defense limited transition opportunities.

Another instant classic.
Winning at Boys’ Latin is never easy.
Severn found a way.
The Admirals secured a dramatic one-goal road victory that strengthened their playoff positioning and highlighted their toughness.

Two powerhouse programs produced one of the season’s best games.
Severn battled until the final whistle but came up just short against a Calvert Hall team that would again prove to be one of the conference’s elite programs.

Heartbreak struck again.
The Admirals pushed McDonogh to the brink before falling by a single goal. The narrow defeat showed how close Severn was to competing with the conference’s very best teams.

Facing a must-win situation heading toward the postseason, the Admirals delivered.
The defense tightened late while the offense produced several clutch goals. The one-goal victory secured valuable momentum entering the playoffs.

MIAA Quarterfinals
Loyola Blakefield 18, Severn 11
The season ended in the MIAA quarterfinals against Loyola Blakefield.
The Dons’ offense proved difficult to contain and ended Severn’s postseason run. Despite the disappointing result, reaching the playoffs in the MIAA A Conference remains a significant accomplishment considering the quality of competition throughout the league.

Top Players and Season Leaders
Sam Long — The Offensive Leader
Senior attackman Sam Long once again established himself as one of the premier scorers in Maryland.
Long reached the milestone of 100 career goals during the season and produced multiple explosive offensive performances. One of his biggest games came against Mount St. Joseph when he scored six goals. At that point in the season, Long had already reached 30 goals.
Long’s leadership extended beyond scoring.
The Navy commit served as the focal point of the offense and consistently delivered in critical moments.

Gavin Gergar
Gavin Gergar provided another dangerous scoring option for the Admirals attack.
The Dickinson commit consistently created opportunities both as a scorer and facilitator. Opposing defenses often had to choose between focusing on Long or Gergar, and either decision created problems.
Kevin Gattie
The St. Bonaventure commit played a major role in Severn’s offensive production.
Gattie brought experience, vision and finishing ability to the attack unit. His presence helped make Severn one of the conference’s most balanced offenses.
Nicholas Todd
One of the rising stars in the program.
The Georgetown commit from the Class of 2027 continued developing into one of the area’s top midfielders and should be a centerpiece for next season’s squad.
Myles Goger
The Johns Hopkins commit showcased elite athleticism and two-way ability throughout the season.
Goger helped Severn control possessions and transition opportunities against top competition.
Charlie Helfferich
A cornerstone of the defense.
The Monmouth commit consistently matched up against elite attackmen and helped anchor a unit that recorded several signature performances.
Dawson Hair
Hair continued establishing himself as one of the premier young defenders in Maryland.
The Quinnipiac commit played a significant role in several of Severn’s biggest victories.
Cole Gray
Gray provided versatility at long-stick midfield and consistently impacted games with his ability to create turnovers and spark transition offense.
Chase Krukiel
The future Le Moyne goalie emerged as a critical piece of Severn’s success.

Severn scored 180 goals during the season and regularly challenged elite defenses. The Admirals scored 14 or more goals in five separate games and featured multiple Division I-caliber offensive players.

Final Thoughts
An 11-6 record might not jump off the page to those unfamiliar with Maryland lacrosse, but context matters.
Severn spent the spring battling powerhouse programs every week, earned victories over several highly respected opponents, reached the MIAA playoffs and continued producing Division I talent across the roster. The Admirals finished with wins over Gilman, Boys’ Latin, St. Paul’s, Mount St. Joseph and Severna Park while proving they belonged among Maryland’s top programs.
The senior class, led by Sam Long and several other college-bound standouts, leaves behind a strong legacy. At the same time, young talents such as Nicholas Todd, Myles Goger, Dawson Hair and Chase Krukiel provide plenty of optimism for the future.
For Severn lacrosse, 2026 was another season of high-level competition, memorable victories and continued excellence in one of America’s toughest high school lacrosse conferences.
