Ray Lewis plans to retire after this season

The Baltimore Ravens legendary linebacker Ray Lewis has announced today that he will be retiring after this season.  Lewis has been the Ravens face of the franchise since being their second pick in franchise history in 1996.

Lewis has been to 13 Pro Bowls and has won countless rewards.  Lewis has been known as one of the greatest leaders and mentors in sports history.  I did a player profile for Ray Lewis last season which you can read here.

This news is not too surprising as Lewis has been injured most of this season.  Lewis is not a young player and he has hinted that he wanted to spend more time watching his son play football in Florida.

I personally think Lewis was the greatest middle linebacker of all time.  Lewis will surely be missed, I grew up watching him play football and the Ravens.  Lewis will surely have his number retired and Ravens fans will never see another number 52 again.
