Ravens report card: 12/31/2017

The Baltimore Ravens season ended in utter disappointment as they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 31 to 27.  The Ravens had a lead late in the fourth quarter but the defense gave up a 49 yard touchdown pass.

Quarterback: Joe Flacco had a tough start as non of his receivers could pull down a pass.  Flacco’s passes were not perfect but if a receiver can get hands on the ball they should catch it.  Flacco had two touchdowns and an interception.  Grade B

Running backs: Alex Collins has slowed down at the end of the season.  Collins had some good runs but for the most part he was stuffed.  Collins averaged only 3.9 yards a carry but also had a touchdown.  Meanwhile, Buck Allen averaged 7.4 yards per carry and got only five carries.  Grade B

Receivers: The Ravens receivers cost the Ravens this game.  It seemed like the Ravens had about 10 drops in the first half.  Mike Wallace dropped about three to five passes in the first half.  Mike Wallace did have five receptions and a touchdown.  Ben Watson led the Ravens with seven receptions for 61 yards.  Mike Campanaro had a good game too.  Grade F

Offensive line: While the line only allowed one sack the line still had Flacco under pressure.  The Ravens need Marshal Yanda back.  Grade C

Defensive line: Allowing 146 rushing yards against one of the worst rushing offenses is not acceptable.  The Ravens defensive line is too good for that.  Grade F

Linebackers: The Ravens need healthy linebackers that can cover a tight end.  Matthew Judon had the Ravens only sack.  Grade C

Secondary: Marlon Humphrey covered AJ Greene great.  Everyone else did well in man to man coverage.  Coverage was blown when the Ravens went zone.  Grade D

Special Teams: Special Teams was great, Chris Moore had a huge return to set up a touchdown at the end of the first half.  Ravens have a special unit.  Grade A

Coaching Staff: Dean Pees is retiring and he should have been fired after the Pittsburgh Steelers game.  Pees underused his talent again.  Grade F

Overall: The Ravens should have won this game but they did not play fundamental football.  Grade D
