Ravens receivers struggling midway through the season

http://media.trb.com/media/photo/2012-08/71784519.jpgThe Baltimore Ravens are five and three and have either won big or lost close. Joe Flacco is having a comeback season after a tough 2013 season when the offensive line failed the offense. Flacco has gotten the protection that he has needed but some of his best targets have failed him. Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Marlon Brown were all top receivers for Flacco last season and have been absolutely lost this season.

Jones has struggled the most out of all the receivers with only four receptions on the season after signing a long-term deal with the Ravens. Jones has had trouble with fumbles in the return game and has dropped more catches than he has caught. Jones has been dropped on the Ravens depth chart and is riding the bench now.

Brown looked like an up and comer last season scoring a team high seven touchdowns as an undrafted rookie free agent. Brown has battle a couple small injuries but still only has five receptions. Brown jumped in the depth chart over Jones but that did not last long. The Ravens touchdown machine of last season does not have a single touchdown this season.

Smith has been the Ravens number two receiver all season but some games he gets completely shutdown. Against the Cincinnati Bengals Smith did not have a single reception. The Ravens need to find a way to get Smith the ball because of his play-making ability. Smith does have three touchdowns and leads the league in drawing pass interference penalties.

Gary Kubiak has brought a great running attack to the Ravens but some of the receivers are really struggling to adjust to his system. Hopefully time will help them develop and bounce back because Jones, Smith and Brown are all talented football players. Players that have proven themselves in the NFL and are still in their prime physically.
