Rafael Ramirez Jr. Leads Fredericksburg Nationals to 9-0 Shutout of Delmarva Shorebirds

The Fredericksburg Nationals defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 9-0 on Aug. 27, 2026, in Salisbury, Md., as Rafael Ramirez Jr. recorded three extra-base hits and scored five runs. The victory gave the Fredericksburg Nationals their second consecutive shutout and their 11th of the season, the most in team history.

Fredericksburg Nationals pitchers have not allowed a run in 25 innings. The victory also marked the team9s 18th win of the season against the Delmarva Shorebirds, tying the 2024 season series with Delmarva for the most wins against one opponent in Fredericksburg Nationals history.

Fredericksburg Nationals Build Early Lead

Delmarva Shorebirds starter Esteban Mejia walked the first two batters before exiting during the third batter9s at-bat because of an injury. Brandon Downer entered in relief and allowed all three inherited runners to score on a Juan Cruz two-run single and a Kevin Made fielder9s choice.

Fredericksburg Nationals opening day starter Leuris Portorreal returned from a month-long stint on the development list and delivered 3.1 scoreless innings. Portorreal allowed one hit, walked no batters and recorded two strikeouts, retiring the final seven batters he faced after allowing a two-out single in the first inning.

Rafael Ramirez Jr. Records Three Extra-Base Hits

Rafael Ramirez Jr. added to the lead with a one-out triple in the third inning, his first triple of the season. He scored on a Juan Cruz sacrifice fly, then doubled in the fifth inning and scored on an error.

Ramirez opened the seventh inning with his third extra-base hit, a leadoff double. Juan Cruz singled him home for his fourth RBI and later scored on a Cashel Dugger sacrifice fly.

The Fredericksburg Nationals added two runs in the eighth inning when Kevin Made singled with the bases loaded. The hit scored Dashyll Tejeda and Rafael Ramirez Jr., who crossed home plate for the fifth time.

Fredericksburg Nationals Continue Shutout Run

Noah Millikan followed Portorreal with three scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and recorded four strikeouts as the Fredericksburg Nationals completed their second consecutive shutout.

Fredericksburg Nationals Scheduled to Face Delmarva Again

The Fredericksburg Nationals were scheduled to face the Delmarva Shorebirds again the next day at Virginia Credit Union Stadium. Landon Harmon was scheduled to start for Fredericksburg against Juan Nunez, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
