Phillies Blank Orioles 8-0 in Rain-Shortened Series Finale
The Baltimore Orioles closed their weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a frustrating 8-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Heavy rain delayed the game for more than two hours before it was eventually called after six innings, with the Phillies completing the series victory behind dominant pitching and timely power hitting.
Philadelphia struck first in the third inning when Bryan De La Cruz launched a two-run home run to left field off Orioles starter Kyle Bradish. The Orioles never found an answer offensively. Baltimore managed only a handful of baserunners and failed to capitalize on its best scoring opportunity after play resumed from the rain delay. Philadelphia’s pitching staff combined for the shutout, limiting the Orioles throughout the abbreviated contest.
Bradish showed flashes early, including strikeouts of Schwarber and Harper in the opening inning, but the weather delay changed the complexion of his outing. Once play resumed, the Phillies quickly seized momentum, and Baltimore’s bullpen could not slow the attack.
The defeat was Baltimore’s second shutout loss of the series and dropped the club after missing an opportunity to build momentum at home. With the trade deadline looming and the Wild Card race tightening, every game has become increasingly important, making Sunday’s one-sided defeat even more disappointing.

Sometimes a rain delay completely changes a baseball game, and that appeared to be the case Sunday. Bradish looked sharp before the weather interrupted play, but Baltimore never recovered after the lengthy delay. The offense was quiet all afternoon, and the bullpen could not keep the Phillies from adding insurance runs.
The Orioles now turn their attention to the next series needing to quickly flush this loss. The club has shown throughout the season it can bounce back, but consistency at the plate remains critical if Baltimore hopes to stay in the American League postseason race.
