Phillies Blank Orioles 5-0 Behind Cristopher Sánchez’s Dominant Outing
BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles could not solve Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez on Saturday night, falling 5-0 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Sánchez struck out 11 Orioles over six scoreless innings as Philadelphia snapped its four-game losing streak while Baltimore was shut out for the first time in several games.
The game was a classic pitchers’ duel through much of the evening.
Orioles starter Shane Baz matched Sánchez for most of the night, keeping Baltimore within striking distance by allowing just one run over 6 1/3 strong innings. Baz attacked the strike zone and gave the Orioles a chance to win despite receiving no offensive support.
Unfortunately for Baltimore, the offense never found the timely hit.
The Orioles loaded the bases twice against Sánchez, once in the fourth inning and again in the sixth, but each time the Phillies ace escaped by striking out Leody Taveras to end the threat. Philadelphia finally broke through in the fifth inning when Bryan De La Cruz delivered an RBI single to score the game’s first run.
That slim 1-0 advantage held until the eighth inning, when the Phillies finally broke the game open against the Orioles bullpen.
Alec Bohm delivered a key two-run single before additional RBI hits from Philadelphia stretched the lead to 5-0. What had been a tightly contested pitcher’s duel quickly became a comfortable Phillies victory.
Sánchez finished his six innings having allowed just two hits while working around five walks. His 11 strikeouts showcased one of the most dominant pitching performances against the Orioles this season, and Philadelphia’s bullpen completed the shutout to secure the win.
Orioles Continue Searching for Consistency
Baltimore’s offense simply could not capitalize on its opportunities. Despite drawing walks and putting runners aboard, the Orioles went hitless in the biggest moments of the game, allowing Sánchez to repeatedly escape trouble.
The loss also spoiled an emotional evening at Camden Yards, where the Orioles honored Chris Davis, Storm Davis, and longtime scout Jim Russo as the newest members of the Orioles Hall of Fame before first pitch.
Looking Ahead
The Orioles will look to bounce back in Sunday’s series finale against the Phillies. Baltimore will need a stronger offensive effort after being limited to just two hits in Saturday’s shutout loss.
A win in the finale would allow the Orioles to earn a split of the two games played so far in the weekend series before turning their attention to the next stretch of the regular season.

This was one of those games where the Orioles simply ran into an elite pitching performance. Shane Baz pitched well enough to win, but Baltimore’s inability to cash in with runners in scoring position made the difference. The Orioles cannot afford to waste opportunities against quality opponents, especially as every game becomes more important in the playoff race. The encouraging sign is that Baz continues to look like a reliable piece of the rotation. If the offense returns to form in the series finale, Baltimore still has an opportunity to salvage the weekend against one of the National League’s top clubs.
