Orioles option Yoon and Monell, re-assign Paul
The Baltimore Orioles have optioned Suk-Min Yoon and Johnny Monell to AAA Norfolk. The Orioles have also re-assigned Xavier Paul to minor league camp.
Yoon signed a three-year deal with the Orioles earlier this offseason had trouble getting into the United States. Yoon will be able to get more innings in at the minor league level, the Orioles look at him as a starter or reliever. The Orioles view Yoon as a Major League quality pitcher.
Monell is a catcher and it looks like Baltimore Steve Clevenger has the upper hand on the Orioles backup catcher position. Clevenger has played extremely well this spring.
Paul is a veteran outfielder with a career Major League batting average of .254 who will provide depth in the organization.
Here are tweets from the Orioles and the Norfolk Tides about the moves.
