Orioles Move Thursday’s Series Finale Against Cubs to Afternoon Due to Weather

First pitch shifted to 1:35 p.m. as severe weather threatens the Baltimore area

BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles announced Wednesday night that the start time for Thursday’s series finale against the Chicago Cubs at Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been moved from its originally scheduled 6:35 p.m. ET first pitch to 1:35 p.m. ET because of a forecast calling for significant inclement weather in the Baltimore area. The decision was made in consultation with Major League Baseball as both clubs look to complete the three-game series before the expected storms arrive.

The change comes after weather has already affected the series earlier in the week, with Tuesday night’s opener beginning after a lengthy rain delay before Chicago claimed a 5-2 victory. The Cubs followed that with a 9-7 win Wednesday, putting the Orioles in position to try to avoid a three-game sweep in the newly rescheduled afternoon finale.

Fans planning to attend Thursday’s game should note that gates will now open at 1 p.m., just 35 minutes before first pitch.

THURSDAY’S ORIOLES-CUBS GAME TIME MOVED TO 1:35 P.M. DUE TO IMPENDING WEATHER

After consultation with Major League Baseball, Thursday’s originally scheduled 6:35 p.m. ET game between the Orioles and Chicago Cubs has been moved to 1:35 p.m. due to forecasted inclement weather. Gates will open at 1 p.m.

Tickets dated for Thursday’s originally scheduled 6:35 p.m. game will still be valid, and no action is needed. For any fans holding tickets to Thursday’s game, and who are unable to attend at the new time should visit Orioles.com/Weather for options. Fans can continue to access their tickets through the MLB Ballpark App and can transfer or resell these tickets at SeatGeek.com.

Christian Faith Night has been rescheduled to Thursday, August 20, featuring postgame music, prayer, and player remarks, open to all ticketed fans.

What Fans Need to Know

Anyone holding tickets for Thursday’s originally scheduled evening game does not need to exchange their tickets. Those same tickets will automatically be honored for the 1:35 p.m. start.

Fans unable to attend the earlier game can review the Orioles’ weather policy and available ticket options through the club’s weather information page. The organization also reminded fans that digital tickets remain available through the MLB Ballpark app and can be transferred or resold through SeatGeek.

The Orioles also announced that Christian Faith Night will no longer be held Thursday. Instead, the event has been rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20, and will feature postgame music, prayer, and player remarks following that night’s game.

Orioles Looking to Salvage the Finale

The schedule change also gives Baltimore an opportunity to finish the series before severe weather moves into the region. After dropping the first two games of the series, the Orioles will be looking to avoid a sweep while building momentum before heading into their next stretch of games.

Although changing start times on short notice can be challenging for fans, Major League Baseball clubs increasingly make proactive adjustments when widespread severe weather is expected rather than risk postponements and difficult makeup dates later in the season.

Thursday’s first pitch is now set for 1:35 p.m. ET at Camden Yards, with gates opening at 1 p.m. Baltimore will attempt to close out the series on a positive note before the forecasted storms arrive.
