Orioles Look to Bounce Back Against Twins
The Baltimore Orioles avoid the series sweep by defeating the Brewers 6-4 in the rubber match of a three-game series in Camden Yards. The O’s didn’t look the greatest over the past weekend with many miscues on the field and pitching woes. Despite the series loss, the Orioles are still ranked as a top-five team according to MLB.com’s Power Rankings. With the team entering the middle of April, the O’s are still in a great position early in the season. The upcoming series against the Minnesota Twins can be used as a bounce-back series
Apple TV Woes
Friday night’s game on Apple TV was what some would call a complete disaster. The Orioles had a rough outing from the pitching staff allowing 11 runs on 15 hits combined. The bats weren’t the strongest either striking out 14 times in total with only two extra-base hits on the night. The biggest highlight in a valley of lows is that Colton Cowser is continuing his hot streak. Cowser went 2-3 with a solo home run, a double, and reaching on a walk in Friday night’s matchup. Cowser is currently top five in total fWAR in the MLB at 1.2 fWAR.
Help is On the Way
The starting pitchers showed signs of struggling throughout the series with all three starters failing to reach the sixth inning. Tyler Wells struggled in game one allowing 4 earned runs on six hits, with only three strikeouts. In game two, Dean Kremer followed up his dominant performance in Pittsburgh with a subpar performance. Kremer pitched four innings allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with only two strikeouts. With Kyle Braddish and John Means getting rehab starts in the minors, help is on the way. The Orioles just need consistency from Cole Irvin, Wells, and Kremer as they look to stay in the win column going forward.
Holliday Gets It Going
After starting the season 0-14, Jackson Holliday hit a single in the bottom of the seventh to notch his first major league hit. With Hollidays’s fist hit behind him, this sparked a three-run rally to put the Orioles ahead for good. The rally was capped off by the “Milk Man” Cowser’s solo home run giving the O’s a 6-3 advantage. The weight of being hitless is off of Jackson Holliday and it could provide the O’s the offense needed at the bottom of the order. As shown in Sunday’s game with Holliday on base the top of the order will get him across the plate.
