Orioles Bolster Pitching Depth, Trade Taylor Ward to Mariners for Three Arms
The Baltimore Orioles continued reshaping their roster ahead of the stretch run on Monday, acquiring three right-handed pitchers from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for veteran outfielder Taylor Ward.
Baltimore received major league reliever Alex Hoppe along with pitching prospects Brock Moore and Harrison Kreiling in a deal that further emphasizes the organization’s effort to strengthen its pitching depth at both the major league and minor league levels.
The move comes after a series of recent roster changes as the Orioles continue building toward the remainder of the 2026 season.
Orioles Add MLB-Ready Reliever
Hoppe, 27, immediately becomes the most experienced player acquired in the trade.
The right-hander appeared in 24 games for Seattle this season, posting a 5.79 ERA over 28.0 innings while striking out 34 hitters. Although his ERA was elevated, he demonstrated swing-and-miss ability with more than a strikeout per inning during his first taste of the major leagues.
Hoppe also excelled at Triple-A Tacoma, recording a 2.65 ERA across 17.0 innings in 15 appearances before earning his call to Seattle.
Originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of UNC Greensboro, Hoppe was traded to Seattle last November and made his MLB debut on April 27, 2026.
His power fastball and ability to generate strikeouts could make him a valuable bullpen option for Baltimore once he reports to the club.
Moore Headlines the Prospect Return
Among the prospects acquired, Brock Moore may possess the highest upside.
The 26-year-old has split the season between High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas, compiling a 3.72 ERA with four saves in 31 appearances.
Perhaps most impressive is Moore’s strikeout production. He has fanned 67 batters in just 38.2 innings, showcasing the type of dominant stuff that has made him one of Seattle’s better pitching prospects.
Baseball America ranked Moore as the Mariners’ No. 24 overall prospect entering the trade.
A seventh-round selection from the University of Oregon in the 2024 MLB Draft, Moore gives Baltimore another intriguing bullpen arm with the potential to move quickly through the system.
Kreiling Adds Starting Pitching Depth
The third piece of the deal is 24-year-old right-hander Harrison Kreiling.
Although early in his professional career, Kreiling has impressed during his first season, posting a 1.69 ERA over four starts between the Arizona Complex League and Single-A Inland Empire.
He has allowed just five hits while striking out 16 batters over 10.2 innings, demonstrating strong command and the ability to miss bats.
The former University of Nebraska Omaha standout was selected in the 17th round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Orioles Part Ways with Taylor Ward
Baltimore gives up one of its most productive offensive players in Taylor Ward.
Ward appeared in 111 games for the Orioles this season, batting .246 with a .383 on-base percentage while collecting:

- 4 stolen bases
His elite plate discipline and ability to reach base made him an important part of Baltimore’s lineup throughout the first four months of the season.
Ward spent just one season with the Orioles after being acquired from the Los Angeles Angels on Nov. 18, 2025, in exchange for Grayson Rodriguez.

While losing Taylor Ward removes a reliable veteran bat and one of the club’s best on-base threats, the Orioles receive immediate bullpen help in Alex Hoppe plus two intriguing pitching prospects with significant strikeout potential.
Hoppe could contribute in Baltimore’s bullpen right away, Moore has the profile of a future late-inning reliever, and Kreiling gives the organization another developmental starting pitching option.
Pitching depth is one of the hardest commodities to acquire during a playoff race. By turning one veteran outfielder into three arms, the Orioles have added both present and future value while continuing to reinforce an area that could determine how far they can go in 2026.
