Orioles activate Robert Andino send Jim Thome to DL
The Baltimore Orioles have activated Robert Andino from the disabled list and put Jim Thome on the DL. Thome has been dealing with some back/neck spasm. The Orioles gave Thome a few days to see if he would be able to comeback without a DL move. In the middle of a playoff race the Orioles simply could not wait any longer to make the move.
The Orioles also did not make any trades before today’s non-waiver trade deadline. There were talks about the Orioles trading for pitcher Joe Blanton but the asking price was more than the Orioles wanted to give up.
I am glad the Orioles did not make a move for Blanton. He was owed a lot of money and was giving up a lot of home runs. At best Blanton would have been a slight upgrade over Tommy Hunter. The Orioles will be getting Jason Hammel back from the DL in September, which will be an upgrade.
