Norfolk’s best game this year?

Eddie Gamboa became the first Tides’ starter to earn a win this season with his performance over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Friday night. Gamboa was helped by an offensive explosion by the Tides and won 10-0.

Gamboa allowed six hits, one walk, and struck out six over seven innings. For the second time this season, the first on April 8, Gamboa didn’t allow a run.

The Tides offensive charge was led by Ivan De Jesus and Brett Wallace. Both De Jesus and Wallace picked up two hits respectively.

De Jesus went two-for-four with two doubles and a walk. De Jesus also picked up two RBI and scored one run. With the two hits picked up in Friday’s game, De Jesus now has a .295 average with seven RBI on the season.

Wallace went two-for-five with a double and a two-run homerun. Wallace picked up three RBI in Friday’s game and now had eight on the year. Despite his performance Friday night however, Wallace is only hitting .194 this season.

Norfolk looks to continue their winning ways on Saturday night with Steve Johnson (0-0 5.87) returning from the DL. Johnson will face Alfredo Aceves (0-0, 1.98) who spent most of spring training with the Orioles. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 in Norfolk.
