Norfolk Tides Beat Syracuse Mets 5-4 in 10 Innings on Luis Vázquez Walk-Off

The Norfolk Tides beat the Syracuse Mets 5-4 in 10 innings on Luis Vázquez’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning July 10 at Harbor Park. The victory gave Norfolk a series lead and marked back-to-back wins for the first time since June 3 – 4.

Norfolk Tides Answer Early Syracuse Lead

The Syracuse Mets scored two runs in the first inning, but the Norfolk Tides responded with a second-inning home run from José Barrero. Christian Encarnacion Strand then hit a three-run home run in the third inning, giving Norfolk the lead.

These home runs marked the 18th of the season for both Barrero and Encarnacion Strand.

The Syracuse Mets tied the game by scoring one run in each of the seventh and eighth innings, sending the contest to extra innings.

Luis Vázquez Delivers in the 10th

Josh Walker held the Syracuse Mets scoreless for a second consecutive inning in the 10th. In the bottom of the inning, Norfolk had runners on first and second with one out before Vázquez delivered the walk-off RBI single.

Entering the game, the Norfolk Tides had a 4-10 series record and a 32-57 overall record. The Syracuse Mets had a 7-8 series record and a 45-45 overall record heading into the matchup.
