Nnamdi Madubuike Activated Off PUP List, Giving Baltimore Ravens Defensive Front a Major Boost

Nnamdi Madubuike Activated Off PUP List, Giving Baltimore Ravens Defensive Front a Major Boost

The Baltimore Ravens received one of the biggest pieces of positive news of training camp Wednesday as star defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike passed his physical and was officially activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. The move comes just days after Madubuike opened camp on the active/PUP list while continuing his recovery from the neck injury that prematurely ended his 2025 season.

Madubuike’s return is significant for a Ravens defense that is expected to once again lean on one of the NFL’s deepest defensive fronts. When Baltimore initially placed him on the PUP list, reports indicated he had already been medically cleared by independent spine and cervical specialists and that the designation was primarily to allow the team to evaluate his conditioning before returning him to practice. That timeline proved accurate, as his activation came quickly.

The 28-year-old has developed into one of the premier interior defensive linemen in football since being selected by Baltimore in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.

Madubuike’s Career Production

Madubuike has appeared in 78 career regular-season games with 66 starts, recording:

  • 203 total tackles
  • 30.0 sacks
  • 42 tackles for loss
  • 6 passes defended
  • Two forced fumbles

His breakout 2023 campaign established him as one of the NFL’s elite defensive tackles. That season he totaled:

  • 56 tackles
  • 13 sacks
  • 12 tackles for loss
  • First Pro Bowl selection
  • Second-Team All-Pro honors

He followed that performance in 2024 with another strong year, posting:

  • 43 tackles
  • 6.5 sacks
  • 11 tackles for loss
  • Second consecutive Pro Bowl selection

Unfortunately, his 2025 season was cut short after just two games because of the neck injury. Even in that brief span, he recorded seven tackles and two sacks, reminding everyone how disruptive he can be when healthy.

Huge News for Baltimore’s Defense

Getting Madubuike back before preseason action begins allows him valuable practice time alongside an improved defensive line.

Baltimore expects to pair Madubuike with emerging standout Travis Jones, veteran Calais Campbell, and a deep rotation that could become one of the AFC’s most physical units.

Madubuike’s ability to collapse the pocket from the interior changes opposing offenses. Few defensive tackles consistently generate pressure without blitz help, and his combination of quickness, power, and relentless motor makes him one of the Ravens’ most important defenders.

His return also benefits Baltimore’s edge rushers by forcing quarterbacks off their spots and creating one-on-one opportunities outside.

MSB Take

This is arguably the biggest injury update the Ravens could have received before preseason football.

When Madubuike suffered his neck injury last season, there were legitimate questions about when—or even if—he would return to the field. The fact that he has now passed his physical and is back on the practice field before the calendar even turns to August is an outstanding development for Baltimore.

If Madubuike can stay healthy throughout the 2026 season, the Ravens once again possess the talent up front to field one of the NFL’s most disruptive defenses. His return is not just good news—it could be one of the defining storylines of Baltimore’s training camp.
