Nationals Reportedly “Finalizing Deal” with CL Trevor Rosenthal

Well it didn’t take long for the first free agent to sign with a team this offseason. The Nationals are reportedly finalizing a deal with closer Trevor Rosenthal. Rosenthal has previously played for the Cardinals.

Rosenthal missed all of 2018 due to Tommy John surgery. His last season, 2017, he played in 50 games before tearing his UCL. He finished the season with a 3-4 record, had 11 saves, and had 2.99 ERA.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal will guarantee Rosenthal $7MM, but it also includes a buyout on the 2020 option. This means he could earn up to $14MM in salary.

With this acquisition, the Nationals are showing a complete makeover of their bullpen, including the trade for reliever Kyle Barraclough from the Marlins.
