Nationals beat Cubs 7-2; recap 8/24/19

The Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field. The Nationals’ record currently stands at 72-57. The Cubs drop to 69-60.

Joe Ross pitched a very strong four innings for Washington. Ross allowed six hits and three strikeouts while pitching. Hunter Strickland allowed zero hits and three strikeouts in relief for Washington.

In the top of the first, third baseman Anthony Rendon hit a sacrifice fly to left, Turner scored.

At top of the third inning, catcher Yan Gomes singled to center, first baseman Howie Kendrick scored and Soto scored, Dozier to third. In addition, Kendrick singled to left, Eaton scored, Soto to second. Also, left fielder Juan Soto grounded into fielder’s choice to second, Turner scored, and Rendon out at second, Eaton to third.

In addition to, in the top of the sixth, Adam Eaton grounded out to second, Parra scored, Turner to third.

Finally, in the top of the ninth, Kendrick doubled to left, Soto scored.

With a win over the Cubs, the Nationals play game three of the series tomorrow at 2:20pm. Pitching for the Nationals is Stephen Strasburg.
