Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Rugby Announces Seven-Match 2026 Fall 15s Schedule

Mount St. Mary’s women’s rugby will open its 2026 fall 15s season at home and face a seven-match slate that includes three games at Echo Field, four road contests and a pair of Maryland matchups.

The Mountaineers announced the schedule Aug. 7, with the season beginning Sept. 5 against LIU in Emmitsburg and concluding Oct. 31 at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina.

Head coach Maggie Myles will lead a Mount roster that includes a mix of experienced returners and newcomers into another fall campaign.

LIU opens the season at Echo Field

Mount St. Mary’s gets the benefit of opening the season in front of its home supporters when LIU visits Echo Field on Sept. 5.

The Sharks are one of the established programs in the national intercollegiate women’s rugby structure, and the opener should provide the Mount with an immediate indication of where it stands entering the fall. NIRA lists both LIU and Mount St. Mary’s among its current women’s rugby programs.

After a week off, Mount St. Mary’s returns to Echo Field on Sept. 19 to face La Salle.

The Mountaineers dominated the first meeting with the Explorers last season, winning 55-12 in Philadelphia, before earning a much tighter 36-32 victory at Echo Field in the fall finale.

That makes La Salle one of the more familiar opponents on the 2026 schedule.

Mount heads to Annapolis for Maryland showdown with Navy

One of the most intriguing games from a Maryland perspective comes Sept. 25 when Mount St. Mary’s travels to Annapolis to face Navy.

The matchup gives the state two of its collegiate women’s rugby programs a chance to meet in a meaningful fall contest.

Mount and Navy also saw each other during the 2026 spring 7s season. Mount St. Mary’s defeated the Midshipmen 26-19 at Frostburg on April 19.

The fall format presents a different challenge, however.

The 15s game places a greater emphasis on sustained possession, set pieces, depth and physical play over a longer match than the abbreviated 7s format.

For Maryland Sports Blog readers, the Annapolis matchup is one of the obvious dates to circle.

Road-heavy middle stretch

After facing Navy, the Mountaineers will remain on the road for much of October.

Mount St. Mary’s visits West Chester on Oct. 3 and then travels to Princeton on Oct. 17.

West Chester is another opponent the Mountaineers know well.

Mount St. Mary’s defeated West Chester 40-5 at Echo Field last October during the 2025 fall 15s season. The programs also met during spring competition, when West Chester earned a 19-14 victory on April 19 in Frostburg.

The Princeton matchup adds another difficult road test.

The Mount also traveled to Princeton during the spring portion of its 2025-26 schedule, giving several returning players recent experience with the venue and opponent.

Frostburg State comes to Emmitsburg

Mount St. Mary’s returns home Oct. 24 for another all-Maryland matchup against Frostburg State.

Last season’s meeting belonged decisively to the Mountaineers.

Mount St. Mary’s traveled to Frostburg on Oct. 5, 2025 and came away with a 52-10 victory.

The programs also crossed paths in spring 7s action, with the Mount beating Frostburg State 34-7 at the West Chester 7s tournament.

The Oct. 24 meeting will be Mount St. Mary’s final home match of the 2026 fall season.

It also gives the schedule a strong regional element, with Navy and Frostburg State both representing Maryland opponents.

Queens awaits in season finale

The Mountaineers close the regular season Oct. 31 at Queens University of Charlotte.

That matchup gives Mount St. Mary’s an opportunity to reverse one of its tougher results from last fall.

Queens defeated the Mountaineers 38-7 at Echo Field on Sept. 27, 2025.

This time, Mount St. Mary’s will have to make the trip to Charlotte.

Ending the schedule with Queens should give the Mount a difficult final measuring stick after a demanding October that includes West Chester, Princeton and Frostburg State.

Mount coming off productive 2025-26 campaign

Mount St. Mary’s showed significant promise during the 2025 fall 15s season.

The Mountaineers recorded wins over La Salle twice, Penn State, Frostburg State and West Chester, while also playing Sacred Heart to a 17-17 draw.

Some of the program’s best performances came at Echo Field.

Mount defeated Penn State 22-14, West Chester 40-5 and La Salle 36-32 at home.

That home success makes the three 2026 dates against LIU, La Salle and Frostburg State particularly important.

The program also carried momentum into its spring 7s season and eventually competed at the USA Rugby/CRAA Collegiate Sevens National Championship in Indianapolis, where Mount faced national powers Dartmouth, Lindenwood and Harvard.

That national-level competition provided another layer of experience for a program continuing to develop.

Returning Maryland talent

The 2026-27 roster also includes several players with Maryland ties.

Senior flanker Bella Canby and sophomore wing Lilliana Canby both attended Manchester Valley High School in Manchester, Maryland.

They are part of a roster that will attempt to build on last fall’s strong stretches under Myles.

The schedule itself is shorter than the nine-match fall slate announced in 2025, but it still provides a diverse collection of opponents and environments. Mount plays teams from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina and Maryland while receiving three opportunities to compete at Echo Field.

A challenging seven-match test

Mount St. Mary’s does not have many easy spots on its 2026 schedule.

LIU opens the season at Echo Field, Navy presents an in-state road challenge, West Chester and Princeton headline the middle of the schedule, Frostburg State brings another Maryland matchup and Queens awaits in the finale.

The Mountaineers demonstrated last fall that they can score points and win against quality regional competition.

Now the challenge is turning that momentum into another productive 15s season.
